'Saving Private Ryan' was pretty memorable for the gruesome opening scene. Nothing particularly disgusting or dramatic...but because it was the very first scene, and pretty long, it kinda just shocked you. You were left thinking 'how is anyone gonna survive a full 2.5 hours of this movie?'

Go rent "Banned from America". That has some nasty sh|t in there. People falling from 20 story buildings. People getting their hands/feet chopped off alive by cops, people shooting their head, people getting run over by trains....:disgust:

I know it's already been mentioned, but the lawn mower scene in Peter Jackson's 'Braindead' has to be the goriest scene I have ever seen. His preceeding effort, 'Bad taste', was pretty gruesome as well. However, he has mellowed for his latest work: 'Lord of the Rings'

I always found the battle scenes from Saving Private Ryan left me pretty numb. Not because they were gruesome so much, mainly because its difficult to think that people, some younger than me had to go though it for real.

To think my father was going through it in places like Iwo Jima, Siapan, Tinian, Roi-Namur, at 18.

American History X - the scene where Ed Norton smashes some guy's teeth along the curb...
Hannibal - pretty much all the gory scenes... very disturbing.

For me it was that one 3 hour sequence in the movie "Titanic". I shudder every time I think about it.

There's a scene in the movie "Cape Fear" where DeNiro's character handcuffs the woman that he's in bed with, then he takes a bite out of her face. It's haunted me ever since I saw it.

didn't really read people's posts but for me it would have to be American History X where Norton tells the guy to put his teeth on the curb and then kicks him in the back of the head. (shudders)

In the original "Evil Dead" when one of the girls gets stabbed in the ankle it just makes me shudder...
