Most fun Blackout ever...

Just wondering if anybody had any fun during the biggest blackout to ever hit America??

I must say I had an wonderful time. I was low on gas (couldn't leave the city) so I had one precious extra night with my boyfriend...with resulted in our first candle lit evening and dinner...also no work for us the next day because, well you know why...followed by him buying a grill from walmart because all grills were on sell so he could cook all the meat in the refrigerator that were going to spoil...which caused me and my friend to jump in our swimsuits and go to the swimming pool while our men grilled...and ofcourse our men know how to grill so we had a wonderful lunch of chicken and salmon...followed by all of us running around in the rain because it started raining...and another round of swimming in the pool (in the rain this time).

I admit I have the sniffles after all that fun in the rain, but I admit it was the most fun I have had in ages. Okay all this may seem silly; but sometimes it is good for us to slow down in the fast paced world that we live in and simply enjoy the simple pleasures in life...like a candle lit evening or running around in the rain.

What is it about blackouts and college students? I remember a blackout back in college, at about 11pm. All the people in the dorms just started to yell and scream and come out of their dorms. It was like a big bonfire scene, except with no bonfire. College students... heh.

Why? there are like 86 people on AT that have female avatars that are definitely, and admittedly, not female. Who cares anymore. It's just a few pixels on a computer screen. Hell I could say I'm female if I wanted to... my avatar is non-denominational, and who would know the difference?

it is defenitely wonderful to be welcomed. Well, this was the only avater that really suited me at the moment...with me embarking on the next stage of my life...like so many other indian daughters. I have succumbed to being a doctor at the moment...Not to say I don't want to be a doctor. I just don't want to be anything else more...I guess.

By the way how did you guys figure I was indian...though it is almost true I am pleased that you guys guessed it. The name did it I am guessing?

The reason I say Europe is b/c in America, the culture has devolved to being ALL about work. No more time to enjoy the company of others--which, btw, is the mantra in Europe (even in the stodgy UK).

Hope this fun puts things into perspective about what is truly important in life sista.

Tell you the truth, it is really sad how materialistic and single minded our minds has become living in this country. I suppose the that is the cost of capitalism; but it is truely sad that people's lives are being robbed of fun and instead being filled with stress and work. I just hope most people find work that they enjoy; otherwise it is truely hell to live in the US. What amazes me more is how short the maternity leaves are in America. And people wonder why family values are deteriorating in this country.

wow, I am very surprised by such a comment. I am not really out there to criticize america as a nation. I am as much as an american as the next person but that does not mean I have to stop thinking for myself. The criticism about how we sometimes lose sight of what is important in our lives applies to me as much as it applies to a lot of other people in america who are forced to be caught up in their work

And if you think about it, as Americans we should be able to criticize ourselves or else we will end up making a lot of mistakes and not realize it. Same goes for each of us as people; we must always keep the doors of introspection open. On my college campus I felt that most people were rather informed about what was going on around them, with the american government, and in the world; while many people in this country let themselves simply be influenced by the media. It is not anti american or unpatriotic to be an informed citizen (and that goes for citizens of any country).

Awwww, I didnt get to experience the blackout. We were not in the northeast... we were in atlantic canada on vacation and came back yesterday. I feel left out now. Although I had a great vacation of digging up clams, and eating lobsters and fishing, and site seeing and sailing....... grand ole time.

Good job, nothing wrong with being Indian and a doctor! It's a lot of fun; i love every minute of it!
