Still a whole lot better than the 25 combined I get now 🙂 Incidentally, though, I've got a friend who has a 2004 Prius and she says she routinely gets 49-50 combined. Still not quite as good as some of those Geo Metro's with the 3 bangers, but they're a lot nicer.

Then I must be very lucky because I'm getting 56.2mpg as of early this morning, and I'm about to go over 600 miles on about 11 gallons of gas. I might average 44mpg in January if the temperature dips below zero.

 on the 56.2 mpg

I think it mainly has to do with people's driving habits. My guess is people are buying hybrids expecting to get the EPA estimates no matter how they drive, unfortunately they're wrong.

Yah I would say you were very lucky. Two of my friends have the new Prius and both report about the same a little over 42mpg average.
44mpg I got from Top Gear and MSNBC reports.

I've just about completely changed the way I drive. But that doesn't mean I go very slow.

I know quite a few people who frequently average well over 60mpg. You have to change your driving habits, something a lot of people just don't want to do.

You're probably right about that. I think they do drive kind of bad given the condition of the cars. THey also haul a bunch of friends, surf boards and what not to the beach on the weekends.

BTW, I have to say that you might have one of the cars that has the best resale value on the market. One of my friends have already put like 35k on the car and he says that BB value was just a hundred bucks less than what he had bought it originally.
