The failure rates at Los Angeles and Chicago stunned security experts.

"That's a huge cause for concern," said Clark Kent Ervin, the Homeland Security Department's former inspector general. Screeners' inability to find bombs could encourage terrorists to try to bring them on airplanes, Ervin said, and points to the need for more screener training and more powerful checkpoint scanning machines.

It's all smoke and mirrors. The airports are no less or more safe than they used to be so let me keep my shoes on while going through the fucking metal detector.

Exactly.

As if ticket prices weren't ridiculously expensive as is. Add yet more security... There's gotta be a cheap competent way to do this.

Maybe this should be moved to P&N so the bush faithful can get off their "there have been no attacks since..." horse. Borders leak like a civ and TSA is obviously not doing its job. Isnt this one of the "achievements" of this admin?

a reason why they might not be finding the bombs is because they're FAKE. :D

Not that surprising, really.

I fly with a big tube of toothpaste and a full stick of deodorant with me on every trip, and I travel fairly frequently (at least once a month for various reasons). Neither of these items are allowed on a plane unless they're under 3 ounces (if I remember correctly). One way or another, both of these things are much greater than the limit.

About a week ago I lost my toothpaste at a security check, but that had never happened after at least 8-9 months, so at least 16 security checkpoints. They can clearly pick it up on the scan, the guy pulled out my bag and removed it.

This will pass through airport metal detectors easily if you don't have any change in your pockets. That's been confirmed many, many times.

Totally remember passing through with a sharp stick taped to my leg just to see if they'd catch me. Dunno wtf I was thinking but they didn't catch me at all.
