running a 6800 vid card on a 19inch monitor my friend says he has trouble seeing any difference btween using the vga cable or a dvi cable. whats the best way to demonstrate the difference?

The only issue with this is some LCDs have poor ADCs, a some video cards have poor DACs, so its very situationals. It is good to use DVI-D with LCDs because they are a digital device, might as well keep the signal digital it's whole life. CRTs are analog, so either way, theres going to be a DAC somewhere in the loop.

If the monitor has dual inputs (sounds like it does) You could compare test patterns (somethng like this maybeLink )with each connector and switch between them.

If its a standard 19"LCD with 1280x1024 resolution...you may not see much difference.

Just cause it's a DVI connector doesn't mean your getting/using a digital signal. DVI connectors carry Digital and Analog signal (well sometimes both, and sometimes just Digital or Analog).

If its connected to a DVI-D connector on the display, its got to be digital.
