He said that if it isn't good enough for us, why should we feed it to them? Or something along those lines.

I tend to agree.

Cats also seem to enjoy eating the cheap canned stuff enough that they will stand in the kitchen and beg for it. Also, the cheap non-human grade is better than letting the animal starve.

Because not everyone can afford to feed their cat Lobster with Steak three times per day and if they were not living with us, they would be eating out of dumpsters and trash cans anyways.
