I was just going through my MP3s (ripped from my CD collection 🙂 ) and found Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. I forgot how damn depressing that song is. What does everyone think the most depressing song ever is?
 
Everybody hurts. Come on, when a song tells you to not blow your head off its gotta be pretty bad..

that song is absolutely haunting.....the perspective it takes from an old old man who knows he's dying soon, and has already lost his wife and mother as opposed to a whiny 20-something singing it is amazing

That one's tough to compete with. While I HATE country music, I have to admit that Garth Brooks' - "The Dance" is pretty freaking depressing. They played it at a funeral I was at a while back, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
