i have a dual core Asus laptop that got slightly rained on.

thought i dried it out thoroughly, e.g. in the sun on the seat of my car.

but some of the keys still don't work - so i can't log in.

but the guest account still works.

used it last night to listen to The Closer on DVD (Season 1, Disc 4). the one with the episode where Taylor recommends an Internal Affairs investigation that would have nailed Flynn, and Brenda Lee supports Flynn. That's when Flynn transfers to her squad.

My most decrepit system is my brain. It is seriously under-clocked and over-volted.

i know the feeling.

besides exercise, nutrition helps.

i find just little things, e.g. the difference between 3-6-9 oil derived from fish/ flax/ borage, and 3-6-9 from flax, make a difference (the fish-flax-borage 3-6-9 i think gives a little edge in terms of cognitive function.

So, you're saying that your brain is now cold with solution? :awe:

3-6-9 oil-augmented, perhaps.

for that matter, why don't they use fish oil instead of silicon oil in breast implants ?

much safer if one breaks.

if anybody answers that, this thread might get moved to OT.

and i fixed my Asus laptop, sort of. used the tiny screen keyboard to login, then installed the drivers for a USB keyboard.

I have an Athlon FX-51 with 1GB ECC DDR running as my file/DNS/AD/DHCP/streaming/backup/tape server on Windows 2008 R2, though pretty much anything onboard doesn't work sans a single SATA port for the OS drive. I had to slap in a PCI SATA card (not even SATA II), a PCI SCSI card for the LTO drive, and a PCI hardware Gig-E card to actually get any decent throughput to the network. Still, it's running swimmingly (slow), though I'm afraid it won't boot every time I power the thing off. I've had it run for over a month with the CPU fan dead, but it thankfully never overheated despite being stuck in a closet.

In about 1-2 months that's going to change since I just need some RAM to upgrade it to an Athlon X4 setup. That should replace both my server and my HTPC/app server/live transcoding laptop. Plus I can finally dole out some of my high profile H264 encode jobs rather than relying totally on my current desktop.

The oldest computer in storage is a Macintosh Classic II in otherwise mint condition that I'm one long torx driver away from repairing. Once I can get that case off, it's just a matter of replacing some caps and she should be good to go.
