Most countries have nationalistic pride - but what about America?

It seems to be like Americans have the least.

There are a few nationals out there waving their flags, but it seems that most people do not care.

Is it solvable?

IMO - No, because I think problem lies in the fact that Americans don't have anything in common except "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" which boils down to "Got mine and fuck the rest" and in a word - "Capitalistic competition" which comes from "Greed". None of these are very virtuous characteristics to possess.

Do you think this is a problem, or going to be a problem?

Americans used to have nationalistic pride.

However, it came to the attention of the corporations and Republicans that the public is more easily manipulated when they all hate each other.

So far the plan is working.

Americans got enough nationalistic pride. What we don't have is many national symbols. We have the flag, the dollar, the eagle, and Smokey Bear. That's about it.

...are you kidding? Coming from someone not American, I view Americans as the most nationalistic country on Earth. You should meet a Canadian if you want to meet nationalistic apathy.

If Canada died most Canadians would go 'oh.. that kind of sucks.. hmm.. is there still Timmys? ok, then we're fine'

Put it this way:

1) No one wants to help each other or pay more taxes
2) No one wants to support each other, corporations outsource and we buy imports
3) People do not identify themselves to each other as Americans - it's all about being a "Guido, Azn, a Brotha, a WASP, a Mormon, a Muslim" etc etc

The only "Americans" that don't have national pride are the Mexicans and Muslims that refuse to integrate.

Maybe it's only apparent to outsiders, but I have always considered USA to be one of the most nationalistic countries on the planet.

GA, I have to tell you, I met a New Zealander blonde bimbo once. Like... valley girl you see on an American TV show accent except... New Zealander.

I'm sorry, but that's probably the worst accent on the planet. I wanted to punch her face within seconds of meeting her.

Standard NZ accents are fine.

We dont have they type of pride you are talking about because we are all different nationalities etc. Take Germany for example. I would wager to say that at least 80% of that country are Germans so they take pride in that and their traditions. And there is nothing wrong with that.

But when people take pride in the US of their heritage it is usually followed up by "You are racist" or some other lame comment from the PC crowd.

Well I think it's just the USA is built on less than noble grounds. I don't think a nation requires a racial and ethnic commonality in order to achieve great solidarity.

If we all believed in holding hands and unicorns and crushing threats and eliminating poverty - OK, I think that would give us something to have in common.

But we do not. We only care about ourselves. Who cares about starving people in the world. We don't even care about our neighbors, we just outsource their jobs away. We care about competition and money - which are further dividing factors. We care about cheap shit, so we take in illegal Mexicans that don't give a shit and will take over the country in a few decades. Through all of this, the USA self destructs...

Only the idiots, when I was abroad the only way people knew I was an American was when I opened my mouth.

How do they do that?

Most recent example:

Last weekend was at a cafe having lunch and there was an American couple in the cafe as well. Aside from their booming voices they were complaining and comparing the food to how they would get it America and going on about how much better it would be in America. The wife then proceeded to tell the waitress how to make her lunch just right because she doesn't like the way Australians eat their eggs or something stupid.

We try to tone it down because people from other countries hate that we're nationalistic at all, even though they are constantly. It's silly.

That sounds more like the effect of being idiots, not American. Although the two are probably related more than I'd like to admit.

As for the thread in general, you don't have to be running around like an idiot with a flag over your head to have pride in your country. The biggest indicator to me is the number of American emigrants. If they didn't love, enjoy, and have pride in their country, they would leave.
