ive been using a Timbuk2 Commute XL bag for a long while now, and im finally fed up with its comfort...even with a strap pad it places a lot of pressure on my shoulders

Im looking for a new bag with a padded compartment for a 15"Wide laptop, and decent room for sunglass case, large powerbrick, a book, a magazine, portable mouse, etc etc etc. Some sub-pockets would be good for keys, flash drives, misc cords, etc.

Also, some easily accessible, external pockets for quick-reach stuff like ipod, work badge, etc etc

Are there any shoulder bags that are comfortable for ~8lb of carry? (laptop alone is 6lb). Or must I use backpack? Im leaning away from backpack because i find its easier to get in-out of things from a slung bag

I went with a booq bag (www.booqbag.com)...but I think your problem is not the bag as much as the type...I think you won't be happy comfort wise until you buy a backpack.

You know what I've found to be a wonderful solution to these sling bags because I have one and it can really put strain on one shoulder, go figure.

But you should get one of those recycleable grocery bags for like 99 cents at the super market. Throw all your crap in there put in over your shoulder. It's like carrying a big purse, it's cheap, holds all of your stuff, and you look like a greenie when you are toting it around. Also in summer everyone will think you are going to beach.

Anything thing to consider is to get the smallest bag that will fit your purpose. The bigger the bag is, the heavier it will be.

I don't have a waterfield bag, though I was interested at one point. Too pricey for me. Or I'm just cheap.

I just got a new Wilson's Leather messenger bag. It was on sale and the right size (15x10x4) and had all the compartments(dividers, outside zipper, pen holders, laptop compartment) I wanted. Though it didn't need to be leather.

Another vote for Booq! I've owned two of their bags (Prickly Pete owns the last one I had) and they were great! When I was traveling every week with my 17" Dell monster laptop, those Booq bags really helped with the weight of the laptop plus all the other crap I had in there! They're a bit pricey, but they're worth every penny!

I love my Timbuk2.. so no idea. A coworker of mine has a strap on her bag that's awesome though.. it kinda stretches at the shoulder and is insanely comfortable. Not sure where to find something like that strap.

Edit: Oh snap, that Absolute Shoulder Strap by Bihn linked above looks pretty similar!

When I read sling bag, I thought you meant one of those kid-carrying contraptions.
