prettiest: rice, stanford (although it looks like a large taco bell), princeton, johns hopkins, brown, chicago

mediocre: harvard, duke, WUSTL, berkeley

crappy: BU, UT-Austin, Texas A&M, Trinity U.

Nicest: Stanford, Pamona

Worst: MIT

I haven't seen many colleges, I have just begun my college visits (Junior in HS)

cornell definately has a very beautiful campus. gorges, a lake, lots of trees, what more can you ask for!


my school before I transfered probably has one of the uglier campuses. Rochester Institute of Technology had the same color brick for every single building....its even a trademarked color!

UC Campuses: All for the most part very beautiful (I didn't really like Davis, Irvine, Riverside though.)

Yale, USC, U. of Chicago: Beautiful campuses, taken away when you literally cross the street into ghetto town. Substantially detracts from the environment. I would hate going there.

Pepperdine: Gorgeous!

Columbia: Nice, but gets rickety up north of town.

Harvard & MIT: Nothing special. Bland!

Princeton, Duke, UNC, Stanford, UVA: Nice. Especially Princeton...yummy campus!

Cornell: Has that Lake Ithaca action going on. Very nice.

Dartmouth, Williams, Wesleyan, Swarthmore, Amherst, Bowdoin: Has that small town vibe with nice natural surroundings. Very North Easty. You really see the seasons vs. the Cali super weather.

Caltech: I liked it.

CMU & Pitt: Not bad considering Pittsburgh is no longer a steel town. Very green & beautiful nowadays.

Oregon: Man the surroundings!

Oxford & Cambridge: Oxford is my idea of classy, traditional surroundings. :) I'd love to spend a year there. Cambridge less beautiful, but still nice.

Haven't seen Canadian or Colorado schools or U. of Vermont, but I heard they are gorgeous.


UGLIEST CAMPUSES: NYC and Jersey campuses surrounding the city. Man! Going to school in Newark or surrounding areas? Fugghetaboutit!

Campuses in Europe are also fugly. Except the ones in Switzerland. Scadinavia, Heidelburg. U. of Paris is butt-ugly.....Sorbonne campus is a joke. Classrooms are rickety old!

European & Asian campuses are for the most part functional and bland looking. Kind of depressing when you compare it to some "art work" looking American/British campuses.

CSU and CA Community Colleges: bland, bland, bland.

The women in S. Cal community colleges are HOT! So, so, so many of them. What a distraction! :)

My wife works at the College of Marin(Ca. community college) and I thought for a jr. college it is is a beautiful campus...

Definitely not UT Austin. I wish they didn't change the architecture from 1960-1990, because it's just horrible. The older buildings (and anything built 1990+) are very pretty, even though it is a city campus and not really spacious. All the other buildings are nice but a couple of dorms and the entire Engineering wing of campus are just...boxy. Prison-like.

Swarthmore is beautiful, and they have this deal with the American Horticultural Society to bring in lots of exotic flowers. Cornell has amazing gorges that are absolutely stunning. (I will be attending Cornell next year. :))

Edit: MIT has to have the ugliest, blandest campus I have seen, although they are trying to fix that with some really odd architecture.

Cornell and Columbia, depending on what you like in a campus. Not that I'm biased or anything... oh, wait, those are my schools. :D

Rice is tops for great campus, in my (unbiased, hehe) opinion.

Ugliest that I have seen is, hmmm, Purdue. I've been to CMU, Purude, Case Western, North Western, UIUC, and maybe one or two more. Ugliest gotta be Purdue because their Campus has all these through streets that are way busy and whatnot. Rice is a great campus.

When was the last time you visited Purdue? Traffic still sucks, but a lot of new buildings are going up and campus is looking a lot better.

I am a fan of UW (that's Wisconsin for all you West coasters). Directly on a lake, the best student Union in the nation, some great old architecture, and Bascom Hill (facing the infamous State Street nonetheless)...

As far as down here in the south goes, I'd have to say UGA ranks up there. It has one of the best campuses in GA (Emory's is nice, but way too small, and the integration with the city is kinda weird), and ranks above the few Florida schools I've seen. We also have some really cute girls, so that's a plus. Haven't been by UVA yet, though. Overall, UGA would have to rank pretty highly as well. I enjoyed UCLA's campus (or what I saw of it, anyways), but have yet to see any other cali schools beyond Cal Poly SLO.

Campuses I've been to (and can remember): UGA, Georgia State, LaGrange, Brenau, FSU, GA Tech, Emory, UCF, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, NYU, Columbia, Yale, Harvard, BU, Purdue, U. of Chicago, UT Austin, SUNY Buffalo, Johns Hopkins, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and soon to be SUNY Binghamton.

Yale had to be the most disappointing of all of the above. Dunno why, but it just depressed me. GA Tech does the same, but I expect that from an engineering school.
