"People at all weight levels -- normal, overweight, or obese -- expressed support for new policies," Dr. Bernard Fuemmeler of Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, said in a press release accompanying the study.

It is no coincidence that since New York and Chicago proposed anti-trans fat laws that many fast food chains are now going trans fat free nationwide.
Wouldn't have happened without the prodding.

I'll have to pull my posts from earlier smoking threads. Slippery slope I said. Fat/food is next.

"Oh, but that will never happen."

Imagine the future from demolition man. Think they had it nailed just right. Now who want's to go to Taco Bell?

The term obese is a little misleading. Technically, a person is obese if they have a body mass index of at least 30. Many people, including myself fall into this category with being an obese person. Im in the best shape of my life, yet IM still considered obese according to that standard.

You are using the governments term for obese. I am using the term meant for all the lard I see grazing thru life.

obese.. overweight.. fat.. whatever, too many people are eating too much food, be it bad or good and sitting on their asses too much.

it was happening before the prodding. it's good marketing. 'we're trans-fat free' is a great marketing tool. the government didn't legislate low fat foods but look at all the things that advertise their lack of fat.

i was watching something on discovery the other day that said something about when super fat people get a certain amount of body fat, they have lots of biological differences and whatnot...i dunno exactly wtf it was talking about, but basically it said that the fat keeps building and building, even if they do diet and exercise and it makes it that much harder to lose it all. but a little dedication and hardwork could have solved the problem years ago... :/ i need to lose some weight too , :p

A lack of regulation didn't cause it, and a lack of regulation will not fix it.

It's apathy pure and simple. It takes discipline and self control to pick out good foods to eat. It takes discipline and self control to actually eat those healthy foods. And it takes even more to eat the proper amount of those foods.

Exercise is an even bigger problem.

You have to WANT to eat healthy and exercise. If you don't buy into it as a complete lifestyle change you will go nowhere. The government manadating trans fat bans and acting as your willpower will do nothing for you. You'll just find other ways to beat the system.

Look at drug addicts.

Actually many animals are genetically programmed to eat to excess as a defensive measure against times of limited food.
Try providing your dog 6 cans of dog food a day and he will get fat.
It may be that the combination of sedentary jobs and access to abundant tasty food naturally results in obesity in a large part of the human population.

Pure bullsh!t.

The move towards trans fat free foods started over two years ago. The marketplace was (and still is) correcting itself.

BTW, it was the very food police who seek to ban trans fats now, gave us trans fat by pressuring food makers to use it in place of saturated fats in the 70s and 80s.

Right on target. We have let the camel stick his nose in the gate, and soon he will be all the way in, folks. We are well on our way to having the government regulate and control every aspect of our lives for "our own good."

Orwell was almost right. Only instead of "Big Brother" we will have "Big Mother."
