Brian Baenhoff, 31, was convicted last week of public indecency for running onto the field at the Bloemfontein stadium wearing only his socks.

About 25,000 people were watching the match between Orange Free State and Western Province, which was tied at the time. Baenhoff brought down a Western Province player who was just about to score a match-winning point.

The streaker apologized to the court and said he had wanted to provide a diversion because tension in the stadium was so high.

Orange Free State won the match.
