I heard this a couple a weeks ago during a FOX baseball game when the whole Pete Rose might be allowed back into baseball issue was going on.

A FANTASTIC record that Pete Rose holds the major league record is:

Pete Rose played in 1,972 team WINNING games.

Think about that. If you are a 21 year old player just starting out your team would have to win 100 games EVERY year for 19 years and you would have to play in every one of those winning games. AND you still would come up short of the record.

Here's the link to the record. Its 1,972 wins with Yastremski second at 1,718.

You could also play for 19 years and play in 83 losing games a year and still come up short in the loss column😉

Nah, to me the most amazing stat is what Johnny van der Meer did AFTER his back to back no hitters: He threw 7 innings of no hit ball in his third game.Imagine throwing three consecutive no-no's? To me the 2 no hitters is the most incredible in baseball, if not all of sports.

Peace

DiMaggio's 56 games with a hit takes the cake imho. Streaks are not statistical anomalies.

The great thing is, after that streak ended the next game he started another streak of like 28 or 29 games if I recall. So for half the season he was carrying a hitting streak.

AND: From May 27 ? July 25, 1933, he got at least one hit in a PCL-record 61 consecutive games. This was back before he was a pro.

He made a lot of money betting on those wins too.

so what if he did?

I think its funny as hell that everyone puts down Petey cause he might have bet on a couple games....

but then they say that these current guys all juiced up on roids are OK.

IMO, old Baseball records should not be highly regarded, since Baseball was so not-competitive before.

Pete Rose's record is not that "old."

Also, I would have thought this record belonged to a Yankee -- any of several. Innnnnteresting.

Pete was one of the greatest, but as for the stat...

it must also count for something that he's played in 1,583 losing games...
