Females, huh?
At least the Arabs have the decency to use men since they are superior and more deserving of the honor.
On the other hand Russia has always been fairly practical and since men can work harder it makes sense to off the women first.

Maybe the use of women was considered 'expendable'?

Using women messes with their abilities to profile.

And if they are Chechens, they are probably easy to recruit, as every Chechen family is missing numerous members after the hammer the Russians dropped on them. The Russians play real hardball, and kept the reporters out of Chechneya when they were busy flattening it. Not to mention having them killed if the speak out about it.

So do they get 72 Virgins when they go to heaven? Do you think they'll be disappointed when they find out all those virgins are from Anandtech?

Waiting for the usual nut-jobs to somehow personally blame Obama for this, since it is obviously his fault, just like everything else that happens in the entire world.

I think you have a valid point. Perhaps we should advertise this across the Islam world. Could be the most effective deterrent against would be female suicide bombers!

You've missed a lot of news shorty. The use of women as suicide bombers is hardly new, isn't relegated to non-Arabs, and has been happening in conflicts other than that of Chechnya.

Women who have lost husbands and fathers to conflict sometimes offer themselves up to be "martyrs" in an act of vengeance. From a planners point of view, they are more valuable in a Muslim country where women aren't often searched, and can hide all kinds of stuff under their abaya.

I wonder if women being second class in a lot of those countries has a lot to do with them being a martyr. If a society makes it hard for a woman to make it on her own without male counterpart and makes her increasingly dependent on the man, it would make sense for her to become martyr out of desperation either economic or psychological.

Not outside the realm of possibility I suppose, but I think the issue of family honor probably rates higher than those aspects. It's a hard thing to gauge, as not every Muslim community operates like those in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

From the Daily Mail:

"Their faces were not destroyed in the explosion, increasing the chance of successfully identifying them, and video from other cameras in Moscow Metro stations has also helped identify the faces of the two women who accompanied them and a man."

So does that mean the bombs were in back packs?

Spandex really is the answer. :)
Not to mention the positive affect on our obesity epidemic were it to be adopted here. I know I'd go on a diet if I had to wear spandex to travel. And probably get some of those opaque sunglasses that blind people wear.

I think part of appeal of road biking is its a legitimate excuse for straight men to wear spandex, in flamboyant colors, and shave their legs :D
Anyways, it sucks big time that this sort of stuff still happens, but the scope seems to be going down from where they were able to kill hundreds of people in operations involving well organized large groups, to where they have to resort to much smaller operations with handful of perpetrators and dozens of victims.

Lets see; you have a predominately Christian army, with Christian leaders, waging a war in the Middle East who rely heavily on air power for force projection via 1000lb JDAMs and drone fired Hellfire missiles that produce similar, sometimes significantly more, civilian casualties.

Let me ask a rhetorical question. Do those who use these instruments of war and pray for their comrades and families also pray for the innocent or do they make believe they have no victims.

That's all I will ever say on the subject.

Pfff. What a maroon.

Those aren't civilian casualties. That's collateral damage.
