Lung Cancer Kills Morton Downey Jr.

Downey, who reigned over ``Trash TV'' in the 1980s and tried to clean up his act for a return, died of lung cancer and other respiratory problems, his family said Monday night. He was 67.

Afriad you got the wrong Downey Jr. I remember Morton Downey Jr back in the 80's. Makes Jerry Springer look like a choir boy.

I remember watching Morton Downey with my dad, he loved that man. It's a shame he died.

Heh, I was on his show once. He did a couple of shows at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem. The topic of the one I attended: Skinheads.

It was a pretty bad idea for three white punk rock kids to go into Harlem for a show about Skinheads in the height of racial tension in NYC (1989). Lucky we didn't get shot. The dumb-arse producers wouldn't let us get on TV to yell at the skinheads.

He was a real chain smoker on that show. I was not surprised to hear that he died of lung cancer.

His show was really popular in the late 1980's. A Springer-style forerunner. I remember watching it at times on Channel 9 (W-WOR) in New Jersey.
