Hello!

I plan to start playing TES III: Morrowind in a day or two (I have not played it before) and was wondering which mods to get for the game which enhances it graphics. I have heard of the 'Morrowind 2011 Mod' which revamps the way the game looks and brings it to Oblivion's standards, should I get it? Also, is there any other mod I should use for making the game character's look better?

Please kindly mention some good mods for Morrowind.

TIA,
Sam25

Where to begin...first off, imho, scrap this idea and go with Skyrim instead. Your sig rig won't have any issues with it. Of course, I assume you've already considered that idea and decided against it. Anyway, Morrowind 2011 was a good compilation, but the guy who put it together didn't get permission from the individual authors, who collectively shat themselves, and Bethesda basically intervened to get the guy's blog taken down. Have no fear, however, because someone did a legit compilation that blows the other one away. Enjoy.

Many thanks CytoSiN for the link!

I have been playing Skyrim and almost done with the game so was thinking of playing through the previous Elder Scrolls titles as I haven't played them before ever. Should I skip Morrowind and instead play Oblivion?

Nah, Oblivion is probably the worst of the three. I think Morrowind is the best, even compared to Skyrim.

I'm really digging Skyrim, but I agree, if you've played Skyrim and no others, play Morrowind next. I loved Arena and Daggerfall so much back in the day, but they haven't held up as well as Morrowind imo.

Morrowind feels rather antiquated now, be prepared. It's a great game, if you can get past the quirks there's incredible gameplay there.

You might almost be better off just re-rolling a new character in Skyrim though and doing other quests. Take a different path...etc. Just a thought.

Oblivion's world is very generic, but with proper modding it's also a great game. Generic, but great.

Play Morrowind without mods first. The original feel of the game, with plenty of eastern accents, and a really unique "frontier" feel, make the game unforgettable. Easily the best TES.

I gave the 2011 mod a try some time ago, I can't recommend it. It makes things look better and will even push modern systems, but it loses a lot of its immersion factor. It's a collection of mods and really cumbersome to configure properly, even with the instructions. It sacrifices draw distance and framerate for IQ, which makes it drag way more than it already does without any mods.

I'd also say play without mods or just add a few that appeal to you. Don't bother with 2011.

Awritey guys, thanks for the many replies. I'm skipping the 'Morrowind 2011 Mod' but will try the 'Morrowind Overhaul 2.0 Mod' as LessThanDan suggested in his post above. If for some reason I find it hard to install that mod then I'm playing the game as is, vanilla.

Cheers guys!!

There you go. You're done. The "it's too antiquated" and "too ugly-looking" arguments no longer apply.

And to those who think Skyrim is a better game than Morrowind: don't make me lol.

[/thread]

I installed that mod last night. It was MUCH easier to do now that it is nearly all automated! I love the work they did to actually make it automated like it is now. It is a very nice compilation of mods.

Morrowind sucks balls.

:awe:

If we assume for a moment that video games are physically capable of sucking balls, then Skyrim is like the newb teenage highschool girl. Not very experienced, kinda small, and kinda awkward. Maybe she's cute at first, but as with most teenage sex, letting her suck your balls is mostly an uncomfortable and strange experience, and you end up not very satisfied.

Morrowind is like the hot neighbor MILF who lives down the street. Ok, so maybe she's a little older, but she has far more experience under her belt. With her you will invariably be going balls deep while enjoying it the entire time. You also have bigger boobs to play with. Far more pleasurable, kinky, and awesome to be on top of.

While I appreciate the wit and breadth of your analogy, I would apply them differently. :D

I played Morrowind relatively new, so it wasn't like it felt and less shiny or fresh at the time. I think one of the main things was that I hated the environment, and it was just too damn much all at once. While it's heresy for TES fans, I like that Skyrim has toned down the leveling attributes and customization a bit.

However, I think now that I've devoted far more time into a TES game than ever before, I feel like I get it--so I might enjoy Morrowind more on a second play through. It was mainly the running back and forth on the same routes time after time after time with no other option that ended it for me. I put maybe 20-30 hours into it, so I'd say I gave it a fair shake.

MSGO rocks, and 2.0 actually tends to work the first time. If you notice sparklies, use MGE XE's AA and transparency AA from your video card options (I use 2xSGSSAA, FI).

Take advantage of Mlox, as you add mods, since many have fixed versions, or are redundant when used with other mods.

Regardless of what else, go ahead and get the Morrowind Patch Project mod, here:
http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html

That page is also a great source for other useful minor gameplay changing mods (MSGO includes most good graphics mods already), and just as importantly, includes bug fix versions. Scroll down and a have a look. Herbalism for Purists, for instance, is wonderful, and right there is the fixed one.

Beyond that, however, these come to mind...

Galsiah's Character Development is rather nifty. I like it. It makes stat increases automatic by improving related skills, more or less. If you like the normal leveling, don't bother.

Animal behavior is practically a must (not everything attacks you all of the time).

If you like necromancy, Blasphemous Revenants is absolutely awesome. Summoning from the ether just isn't the same thing. Even if this one is not for you, you should check out Fliggerty's other mods.

If you play stealth, check out Thief Experience Overhaul.

If you're not of the Atranoch(sp) sign, there are several good magicka regen mods out there, including Fair Magicka Regen and Dynamic Magicka Regeneration.

On the larger side of things, there's Tamriel Rebuilt (Map 1 and Map 2), and various added dungeon mods.

Better bodies/Better Heads are definitely a must - the characters were even crap-ugly back in the 'days
