Rockville, MD - April 23, 2002 - Bethesda SoftworksT announced today that the highly-anticipated role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls III: MorrowindT for PC, has gone to gold master and will be in stores the first week of May. Morrowind also be available will also be available soon for the XboxT video game system from Microsoft.

Morrowind is an epic, open-ended single-player RPG in which a player can create and play any kind of character imaginable. Players can choose to follow the main storyline and find the source of the evil blight that plagues the land, or set off on their own to explore strange locations and develop their character based on their actions throughout the game. Featuring stunning 3D graphics, open-ended gameplay, and an incredible level of detail and interactivity, Morrowind promises to be an experience like no other.

"We know the gaming community has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Morrowind for a long time," said Todd Howard, project leader for Morrowind. "We were able to remain true to our goal of providing the deepest, most cutting edge RPG you can buy. We're sure everyone will enjoy the game as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Morrowind is the sequel to Bethesda's award-winning titles ArenaT and Daggerfall®, highly regarded as two of the most intricate and compelling role-playing games ever released. Following in their footsteps, Morrowind has already garnered numerous awards from last year's E3 show and an impressive collection of accolades. PC Gamer Magazine called it "The best-looking 3D RPG ever," and GameSpy included Morrowind on its list of most wanted games for 2002.

"As has already been mentioned by numerous gaming publications, Morrowind will change the way we view role-playing games forever," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. "We couldn't be prouder of the development team for what they've accomplished, for taking on a challenge like Morrowind and implementing it so skillfully."

YES! Can't wait. Gonna get the Xbox version though, so I may still have to wait even more... but I'm lazy and want to pay it sitting in my recliner, with my 500watt stereo and HDTV. For a couple hundred hour game, I will really want to be comfy. :)

Given the very positive reaction to the Morrowind beta, and Bethesda's stellar--bug problems aside--track record with Arena and Daggerfall, I have no doubt that this will be the greatest RPG of all time.

Seriously.

I hope that it doesn't crash and burn under over hyping. I'm really looking forward to this game. The only one I am looking forward to more is Project Ego.

YAY!

I have been waiting for this game for years. And hopefully will be playing it for years as well. I got quite a few years out of Daggerfall, but for some reason never managed to finish it. None of my friends did either :) Not that it's a bad thing, it;s great just wandering around and doing what you want to do.

I know nothing about this game. How does it compare to the BG series? Or is it more like Dungeon Seige? Or more like Diablo? Or more like the yet to be released NWN?

It is totally single player. The game can switch between 3rd and 1st person views. Very open ended, lots of graphic detail if your computer can hang. It is a real RPG! Not like Dungeon Siege or Diablo.

Let me put it this way: If Morrowind was the Atlantic Ocean then Diablo would be a wading pool. :p That's nothing against Diablo (I liked it) but Morrowind is a far deeper and more immersive game. The main quest alone will take about 100-120 hours to complete, but more importantly you have the freedom to do whatever the heck you want. You don't even have to begin the main quest if you don't want to, you can spend hundreds of hours just exploring the huge, detailed gameworld.

That said, this game is not for everyone...some people may feel lost or confused by the multitude of options and open-ended gameplay. But I have to believe that for most RPG fans this will be a dream come true.

You can check it out for yourself by downloading the trailer from the official site (through downloads/media/movies).

I too hope that this game doesn't fall victim to hype. It would be great if this game rocks. I can't wait to spend hours and hours playing it...

Waaaaay too many games I want right now. I'm trying to finish dungeon siege, I REALLY want Morrowind, I want Jedi Knight II, and Freedom Force is looking pretty cool too. Morrowind will win out though, I've been waiting for a very immersive RPG with tons of main and side quests ever since I finished BGII and the expansion.

I know what you mean. I want:

Moorwind
A Soccer game for my XBox
Brute Force
Never Winter Nights
Jedi Night II

I only have enough money for 1 or 2. Probably Moorwind and Never Winter Nights. Try to get my dad to purchase a soccer game for me for my xbox cause he might like to play that also when I go home for the summer.

After all the hype on Pool of Radiance II and it's subsequent crash and burn, I'll wait for a goodly number of reviews before I dive in. Hopefully it will be much like BG2 in quality and play, but with a good 3D interface. Of course we should have NWN in June hopefully and Bioware has a rep for quality, depth and polish.

Don't forget IWD II in late May! I liked IWD I alot.

Yeah, by around the 2nd week of May I should be finishing up Dungeon Seige and will have gotten a good idea of what to expect out of Morrowind.

They all have to share time with AvP2 though. :)

Good call. I don't expect anything innovative from IWD2, just more of the same...but that would definitely be a good thing. :)

Of course what I *really* want is Fallout 3, but God only knows when that will come out. Oh well, there are plenty of new games coming out in the meantime.

1.33 ghz T-Bird
512 mb RAM
Geforce 3

WHich would be the better system to buy it on?

<< Morrowind for the XBox or the PC? >>

Your PC will handle Morrowind's system reqs fine so I would go with that. I heard that the XBox version may ship later than the PC (which has already gone gold) since they have to be entirely sure that all the bugs are ironed out first, so unless you feel like waiting PC is the way to go. Unlike the XBox version Morrowind for PC also comes with and editor that allows you to do just about anything (mods, etc.) if that interests you.

But if you prefer to play games console style (on a couch with a controller) then maybe XBox would be a better choice for you.
