Damn, this is rare. 7:15 a.m. and not only is it pouring, but we've thunder and lightning as well. I can't remember the last time I saw a thunderstorm in the morning hours. This is pretty sweet, although I admit I'm happy I had already planned to take today off. Not sure how the commute would be.

How often do you see morning thundershowers? And why are they so rare?

They happen here not so often either.

I think they are rare because they are caused by cold and warm air masses mixing, and in the overnight hours the temps usually drop, but once the sun comes up and heats up the atmosphere it makes it more likely to occur.

Yep, power has been fluctuating all morning. Good thing I saved my work before it went out.

Eye are jealous.

While we've had some very nice weather, (yesterday's high was only 82) I miss having summer thunderstorms.

Every place we've ever lived before Kahleeforneeya had them...now, we get a few in the winter, but not many, and they're rarely BIG thunderstorms.

We have thunderstorms all the time in the morning, evening, noon, or ocassionally, ones that last for like 2 days straight... recently however, it's been rainy/stormy in the morning, then HOT AS FVCKING HELL by noon....

It looked like 9 pm at 9 am this morning because of how dark it was. Coworkers thought it might be armageddon because all of the servers were down, the lights were flickering, one guy's car wouldn't start, and there was this strange swarm of wasps all hovering around ONE car in the parking lot like they were being commanded to attack it.

I freaking love thunder and lightning storms. We do not get anywhere near enough of them here.

That's probably the one big drawback to summer thunderstorms...the humidity seems to go up rapidly once the storm goes away...and it gets "steamy."
