Morning shake...

I made a shake for this morning last night. It had two scoops of whey protein, a tablespoon of peanut butter, one whole banana, 20 oz. of skim milk, and a tablespoon of fresh coffee grounds. Just for a breakfast/post-workout thing.

Anyways, I think the coffee grounds are getting to me. My head is buzzing and I'm feeling a tiny bit jittery. My head more than anything is really driving me crazy, it's almost like being high and it's really awkward feeling.

Too much caffeine or what?

Short Cliffs:
1) Made morning shake, added tablespoon of coffee grounds for flavor
2) Two hours later my head feels funky and I'm a bit jittery.
3) Too much caffeine?

You actually put coffee grounds in it? That's damn nasty.

I'd assume it's the caffeine. I'm not sure how the body breaks down coffee grounds and metabolizes the caffeine or how much, but I'd assume it'd be in greater quantity than your average drip preparation method; most drip machines aren't sufficiently hot for full extraction of the coffee, so some amount of caffeine (and flavor) is inevitably left behind.

I ground them like...further. For coffee taste. They were the next best thing to liquified, anyways I still feel a bit funny.

yeah.. don't think you wanna be eating coffee bean grounds... if you really want the coffee flavor, drink a cup.

geez..the beans contain like 1~4% of caffeine by weight. versus 100mg for a shot of expresso.

If you want something like that here's an alternative. Make REALLY strong coffee and after it cools pour it into ice cube trays. Freeze it and dump one or two in your next shake preperation.

Eating a tablespoon of grounds is quite a bit different than drinking the run off... I would wonder how much coffee that equates to... just as a guess I'd say at least 5 cups.

its not gonna hurt ya. coffee is perfectly find to be eating the beans. why do you think there are chocolate covered beans? I got a box from starbucks. If they weren't burnt, it would probably taste a tad better. But either way, I was snacking on them one night. On top of the cappuccino, I didn't think I got THAT much more of a buzz compared to drinking two cappuccinos instead.
