Personally, i'd suggest a lower impact form of exercise, but i guess if you don't want to pay out the ass for a gym or pool membership, and you don't have the time to do a lot of walking or another sport, combined with the increasingly sedentary(sp?) lives we lean, running is an easy answer...

That, and most people who have knee problems run with improper form or bad shoes, and overtrain. I ran a marathon when I was 18, and I still don't have any knee problems. Most don't get them, of course some do, but most just use it as an excuse for not getting off their lazy ass. :p

EDIT: i really enjoy swimming actually, and it's an awesome all round workout :)

i run every morning before work (5am or so) and since I've been doing that I've cut down on coffee/soda/sugar in the morning cause i'm already awake. Its great to start the day with that post run high also.
