Morning Pep

Lethargy during the day is a large problem for me. If I do not consume a chemical (such as caffeine) I have difficulty functioning to my fullest potential. However, if I do consume caffeine--even a tiny amount, such as half a cup of coffee--I go stir crazy for an hour or so and cannot concentrate very well. Also, if I drink caffeine less than 14 hours before I want to go to sleep, I have a hard time falling asleep. Is there another substance I can take besides caffeine that will give me some pep without as harsh side of effects as caffeine?

Wow, you are super sensitive to caffeine.

Do you put creame and sugar in your coffee?

Yes, but often I use sweetener rather than sugar. Also if I drink plain tea I will have the same problem. The situation is that if I don't have the energy boost, I will often sit an entire day doing absolutely nothing. It's like I am too tired to even get up to take a shower. If I have something to do, like work, I will get myself there just fine. And once I start working, my lethargy passes away. But If I have nothing to do, I just can't get going without some chemical intervention.

Thank god for the pharmaceutical lobby.

Is that expensive? I don't have insurance and I only make $300 - $500 per month (and most of that goes to school loans). I could possibly swing $30 or $40 a month. I have been diagnosed with ADHD in the past, but I never took medication for it.

Run at least 4 times a week for the rest of your life. When 5 miles seems easy to you then you will be set :)

Sometimes its that simple.

Its true, i need to get back into my routine, sick, injuries and holidays interrupted it and i feel it.

Also - try taking vitamin supplements. B12 is AWESOME. I take a b12, multivitamin, calcium/magnesium, and fish oil pretty much daily, and i can tell when i stop taking it.

i stay away from caffeine - when i used to target shoot on weekends i could tell a difference in my shooting if i had a cup of coffee a day before, or especially the morning of. Not cool!

Exercise cures this - really. It's numerous magnitudes of order easier to concentrate after a full body workout.

My daily cocktail consists of: Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin B Complex, Garlic, Zetia (prescription), and a multi-vitamin.

I am going to fight bad cholesterol one way or another! :p

I've got insurance, but I want to say before the co-pay my 60 count bottle of 20mg generic tabs runs about $80. If you explain your situation to your doctor he might prescribe you dexedrine which is practically the same thing and much cheaper.

Because of my insurance I just go the pharmacy closest to my house, but from what I understand Sams Club and Costco have pharmacies that are a good bit cheaper and one does not need a membership to fill your prescription there due to issues with the law. There are also so legitimate Canadian pharmacies that you could order from which are cheaper that the one's here in the states.

I don't know about your school, but I know that one of the one's I went to would fill generic prescriptions for $10 at the medical center.

I went to the clinic today and saw a friend of the family. She told me she couldn't prescribe ADHD medicine because of the contract with her employer, but could give me free samples. I got two weeks of Strattera, and I am to see someone else on Monday that can prescribe something for me in generic form.
