think there was a book about a memoirs of an english teacher in japan, basically they import westerners to classes more for novelty and authenticity than education.

There's a huge demand to learn English in Japan. An any native Japanese who can learn English well enough to teach it, probably wouldn't want to teach it. It's a very very low paying job, just barely enough to get by. Certainly not for a life-time occupation, which is what the typical mindset of a Japanese worker is.
I've got several friends that have gone over to Japan to teach, both girls and guys, whites and asian. It's a fun experience (more fun for the white guys), but nothing anybody would want to do permanently. If you want to actually teach and save money, you're better off in China or Taiwan (even then it's not much).
she lived in hawaii for a while, which explains the retarded slang and improper grammar at times. lolOriginally posted by: touchmyichi
