If I was to buy a new Processor, which would be more ideal for an office PC, speed wise? Im looking at the fastest Duron possible, a 1300 MHz, vs the Thunderbird 1333 MHz. The PC will be used for Office, Internet, CD Burning and a few basic games (like Scrabble and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire). Which is the better processor??? (and fastest for this)

the old duron(spitfire) is about 10% slower then the old athlon (thunderbird) at equal clock speed

since your comparing a new duron (morgan) vs. the older athlon the duron will make up some of that ground

but the tbird will still be a little faster (on average) then the duron at equal clock speeds

the key word was average :) since they use different architecture cores in some apps the duron will be faster. especially if the app uses sse (since the new duron has sse support and the tbird doesnt)

plus the fact that since the athlon is a 1.33ghz means its runs on a 133mhz fsb and that will give more of a system performance boost over the 100mhz fsb of the duron

all in all i would pick the tbird

I replaced a Duron 1.0 (Morgan Core) with a Athlon 1.4 (266) and I can't really tell much difference. To me it would depend more on price. If they're the same price, go with the Athlon, but if the Duron is lots cheaper, then go with it.

at newegg.com, their Duron 1.3 GHz is $57 for OEM and $68 for retail. their 1.33 GHz T-bird is $66 for OEM (and no retails available). but their AthlonXP 1600+ (1.4 GHz + SSE) is $68 for OEM. dude, get the XP chip...
