More Zen Micro Issues

OK, I have been using my zen micro for about 2-3 weeks now no problem. I had 3GB of stuff on it. I just downloaded another GB of music and when I plugged it into my PC, it says the device is not recognized. I have done nothing to the PC or the mp3 player, but all of a sudden it won't recognize it.

When I plug it in, a messsage pops up actually saying that the device is connected but there are no srivers for it. I am using the 2.11.02 firmware (the "Play for Sure" one). It seems retarded that it will all of a sudden not work when I plug it in...

Is there something I did that screwed this up, or is it another defective micro? Any advice welcome...

Edit: I have tried it in 2 other PCs with the same results, which leads me to believe it is th player.

Edit 2: If you are curious, the first micro I ngot had a defective USB port. I could plug it in but the computer would not recognize it at all (no message or anything). At least now it is popping up a message when I plug it in...

I had this same exact problem with my Samsung YH-925 player recently and I couldn't figure out anything. So, I bought USB cables from Bestbuy, APPL store, Radio shack. Finally, called Samsung order a cable direct from them and it worked instantly.

Been happy every since. True story...

Does Creative sell a cable for it that you can try as a last attempt before RMAing it?

My flash drive does that sometimes, seems to be more of a software issue (Windows) than a hardware issue. I usually just restart and then it works.

I have tried multiple cables and PCs and even reformatted the layer (lost 3 GB of music, still on PC though). Obviously I cannot reinstall the firmware if I cannot connect it to the PC.

I repeat, it has been working fine for 3 weeks, it just bugged out o me this morning. I have not installed anything else and have done nothing with the actual player. The best thing that creative tech support could do id tell me to reinstall the firmware (which I told them I couldn't) and to install WMP10 (which I alreay have). They told me they will call back tomorrow an I assume that I will be getting yet another RMA...

Through the same powered USB port off the mobo that has been working for the last 3 weeks.

good advice. I checked it and it was all clean... I doubt the computer would still see it though.

Bah I too had to RMA my Zen Micro.. Not such a complicated issue as yours though, mine developed a short in the headphone jack. If you touched the cable at all it would put out a ton of static. Sent it in, should get it back soon though. Bummed me out though cause I'd only had it about 3 months, but I still had to pay $40 labor for repairs, plus shipping. Boo on Creative for that. I like the player a lot though, when it works :/

It is sad really. These players are superior to the ipods in so many ways, but there are so many reports of failures and other issues that it is a bit annoying. If this next one is defective, I will probably just return it...

I'm just glad that the US RMA office is located 2 miles from my house. I can just drop mine off and pick up a new one...

Can you get into the repair mode or whatever its called. I think you take the battery out for 60 seconds and then put it back in with the little power switch pushed over to on. You can do a few things in there like reset all of the settings, etc.

Maybe a dumb question but have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Sometimes they can get corrupted in the registry.
