Well I got my Xbox from DP here on the forums. Now for some more questions. The Xbox HD AV pack, is it worth it on a non HD TV? I have a 27" Toshiba, it is not high definition, but it does have a set of component inputs on it. SO would I notice the differance, or should I stick with Svideo or even the standard composite cables? Although I definately want to get it hooked up to my sound system, so I assume I will definately need to buy a new set of cables right? Since I don't think the optical cable just plugs into the back like it does on the PS2, right?

Also this will only play DVD's if I get the 30 dollar DVD kit, or if I mod it right? If I mod it do I have to use the controller to control the DVD, since I obviously won't have the remote?

Still trying to learn more about modding, and which chip to get.

Xbox makes an awesome Emulator system. My roommate mod'd his Xbox and it plays NES, GB/A, SNES, N64, Genesis, MAME, PSX... all flawlessly as far as I've seen. And the PSX games look better than they do on the PSX. 😛

LOL, thats cool. I will get there eventually.

As for now any idea if its a good idea to get the component cables for a non HD TV?

If it's an old TV you won't see a huge difference. But I suppose you could always just pick them up in the interest of having them when you do upgrade your TV.

Thats kinda what I figured. The TV is probablly 2-3 years old. I need a new set of cables anyway so I can use the optical outputs on them, so I guess it can't hurt since all the cables seem to be about the same price.

Sure Component > S-Video > RCA.... it will always help.

As for PSX and N64 emulation.... it's buggy unfortunetely. N64 works, but I had to add another 64MB of RAM for most games to run at all resonabaly, and let me tell you it's not fun removing the RAM chips from another motherboard.

Let me make sure one thing for sure first. I have over 200 DVD's, would I be able to convert these to divx, and store them on my computer and use the Xbox to stream them to my TV? That is something it can do right?

heck...if your hdd is big enough, you can just dvdshrink them to 4 gig iso's in about 15 minutes and watch that directly on your xbox....

Xbox ran PSX games better than my system which is an old 900mhz Athlon T-bird with Ti4200.

Yeah I am not sure how soon I will be upgradingt he hard drive though, if I don't need to, i probablly wont.

So I am getting the component cables, now can anyone tell me what the modchips ahve to offer over a soft mod or game save exploit, and what is the differance between the last 2.

I have been reaidng over at Xbox scene, but I can't seem to find the differances.

Is that the only differance, cause I am not worried about Xbox live, besides from what i read, while it might be a pain, a softmod can be undone to use live.
