More weird little problems

Win 7 ultimate.

Now, my PC has gotten into a state where the browser 'back' button stopped working, so I need to just go to new sites. Right-click back button still works.

The mouse wheel isn't scrolling a window, but the scroll bar still works in one - but not another.

I have some notepad windows open. I can alt-tab to bring them up but nothing is clickable - I can't click to save the documents.

On another note - literally - while playing World of Tanks, I've noticed periods of lag/hang where I then hear the OS make that two-note sound it makes when you disconnect a USB device - two notes, one middle sound the next lower. The only USB devices I had hooked up are headphones and kindle, neither of which should cause that. Few times an hour.

Update: I closed a couple programs that were unresponsive to clicking, and now the notepad windows are clickable again.

There seems to be something in one breaking others. Still not sure about the thing interfering with the lag and two note sound. I unplugged the kindle to see if it goes away, but plan to reboot also.

If you are displaying a linked site, there is no "back." Close the window or open the previous one on the taskbar.

Oddly enough, I have had the same problem with my desktop... but just intermittently... even here at AT once in a while (where I use it a lot.) 😕

I used to have something similar happen on one of my Win7 laptops. Hitting CTRL+ESC to bring up the Start menu, and dismissing it, made things clickable again.

Maybe it was a trojan stealing focus?

Is windows recognizing the kindle? I had a keyboard that was seen as an unrecognizable device and was doing this every couple of minutes in CS GO. If unplugging the kindle doesn't work I'd try unplugging the headphones as well just in case.

The same problem is still happening - in World of tanks, 2 or 3 seconds the mouse stops
having an effect, then I hear those 2 sound and it's back - but can happen again quickly.

I think it can happen elsewhere also.

The kindly is no longer plugged in today, while the problem continued.

Could it be the mouse? It's been wearing out and double clicking for a long time.

I just tried unplugging the USB cable for the kindle as well - that could be it.

It is the mouse. That's my first thought when i started reading your thread. Sounds like it's dying. Can almost guarantee that a new one would solve the issue. 🙂

I think it was the mouse. I replaced it and haven't seen the issue.

Now, I'm wondering why I lose internet connection intermittently.

Looks like the cable modem went bad. Replaced it and after a headache configuring it's working fine. Think I'm gonna buy my own modem.

You probably already know this, but make sure it is in the list of supported modems from your cable company.

Funny story: Charter gave me a modem when I upgraded my service, but I kept my old one. Went to help a guy who's modem went out, and that very same modem that was supported at my house is no longer supported for their service! I guess it was only supported in my case because I never interrupted my service while using it.
