More Weird Computer Stuff

I've become a frequent flyer here lately it seems. Previous thread aside, let's focus on the problem most annoying to me currently: Inability of certain programs to access the internet.

For example, I can use firefox just fine. I'm using it now. Ditto AIM. Online games seem to work fine, and I just used a downloader app to redownload WoW and Burning Crusade addon for it. At the same time, I am completely unable to get Limewire to connect to the internet. I cannot get Azureus to connect to anything. I cannot get Realplayer to connect to the internet to download updates or codecs. The program I use to update my UI things for WoW, WoWAceUpdater, will not access the internet. Windows firewall doesn't even pop up for these programs, it's like they don't exist. AVG and all of my security programs have no problem gaining access for updates however. Totally at a loss.

In trying to figure this out I have disabled Windows firewall entirely to no effect. I've tried adding them to the exceptions list to no effect. I'm behind a D-Link wireless router and have added myself to the DMZ on it, removing me from the effects of the firewall, and that hasn't fixed it. My fiance's computer is on the same network as I am and she can do all of the above mentioned things with no problem. Literally 5 days ago before I reformatted I could do all of the above mentioned things with no problem. Is it possible that I have a bad install of Windows and I should try again? Should I mark this up to more of the super schizo behavior my system has exhibited since my first reformat two weeks ago? I've convinced myself that the motherboard needs replaced, I'm just trying to get this thing on life support until I can afford to do the upgrade, so if anyone has any ideas about this weird network issue please share your thoughts.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I was unable to activate Windows over the internet either, I had to call support to get it to work. Once again a network access issue of some sort.

Like I said above, all other computers on the network are working fine, and the router was removed from the equation. I've triple checked router settings, nothing has changed since the day I set it up. It's not ISP related imo because all other computers can do these things fine on the network, and as I said literally 3 days ago everything was fine, now suddenly after a new install of Windows its borked.

I took out the old hard-drive that wouldn't let me install Windows, and am only using one HD now instead of two. Also am now using Windows XP Professional instead of Home edition. As far as software, all drivers etc should be identical, I used the same install disks I always do. How do I check system event logs?

I have 4 Errors listed as hangs, 2 for firefox and 2 for quicktime, and 2 Errors listed as errors, both involving msoobe.exe 5.1.2600 in urlmon.dll.

That's all I'm seeing.

As I said, I removed the firewall from the equation by disabling Windows firewall and running outside my router to the internet. Did not help unfortunately. I think i'm just going to accept that this mobo is in need of replacement and see where I go after I swap it.

I don't know if people are glossing over it or not, but I said that I removed my computer from being behind the router's firewall by putting myself in the DMZ. That gives me a direct line to the internet without being behind the router, and the problem persisted. The issue isn't in the router. I have even run a direct line from the modem to the computer and it's still having problems with certain programs.

then I would start by checking the OS, NIC drivers, and all adapter settings. making sure that the NIC is not manually assigned any address's or proxies. then I would verify the drivers are the correct and latest ones form the hardware manufacturer, then I would go see if you can go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
