"Number of the Beast" made famous by Iron Maiden (cover)

"Die, All Right!" by the Hives

"Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots

Awesome. yeah Maiden is a cover but Run for the Hills was a good cover. No one can match Bruce's voice though. THe other 2 are masters.

I'll be getting these for sure. Well to be fair I even bought the craptastic Christmas week dlc.

I'll definitely get the STP, but I might skip out on Iron Maiden and the Hives unless there's a protester in our group. Most of the metal-ish songs seem to generate groans when they come up in BWT and I'm not a big Hives fan.

At Joystiq they mentioned that Harmonix plans to announce Tuesday's DLC every Monday from now on. I was really hoping for a roadmap like we had before Christmas, but oh well.

it'd be nice to have some more famous songs from the groups in rockband and stuff from groups like Bush, No doubt, etc.

Yes! The current selection is good for rockers, but for the karaoke crowd it's really lacking. They all want 80s pop music.

Well can't make everyone happy except me I guess.

They have some female singer DLC. Cherry Bomb, Brass in Pocket, The Sounds. That is off the top of my head. Not sure if there are any others.

I haven't heard of any of those songs. I generally skip over any tracks I don't recognize. But I'll have to check them out, it's too bad you can preview the songs on live.

Just search for the song title and "Rock Band" on YouTube. There are a LOT of videos and there is one guy that even downloads everything early every Tuesday morning for the very purpose of uploading demo videos for others.

Oh, and I guarantee you or your wife know Brass In Pocket, even if you don't from the song title.

How so? If you like the songs and the game then it's worth it. If not then you don't buy them.

I agree, at the very least it's a lot better than Activision's 3-pack or nothing strategy.

It would be nice if Activision responds with a change in their own strategy down the line, maybe even with a price cut, because there's no way they're making as much on DLC per user as EA/MTV/Harmonix is with Rock Band. Obviously, GH3 sold a lot more copies due to price, timing, and brand familiarity, but once the individual RB instruments hit the market that gap should close up a bit.

I just dont want to have to spend another 100 bucks on an already 170 dollar game. thats all. the prices are a little high. I just dont wanna spend that much on a game. maybe ill hold off and theyll drop the prices on songs when they get old.

the game comes with 50-ish songs, so i would imagine spending 50 dollars would get you at least 50 more songs as dlc? Im thinking if the stuff came as a dvd expansion or second iteration(rockband2?) instead of dlc that i would expect 50-ish songs for my 50-60 bucks.

i do like the fact that you can choose which songs to get since its dlc. it could be a little cheaper though.

I agree with most of your thinking, but I balance that against my opinion that what you get in the Rock Band: SE package (when everything is working properly) is worth more than $170. Before the price was announced, there was a lot of speculation of a $200 or even a $250 price point considering GH3 was $100 with only a guitar.

I figure EA/MTV/Harmonix took a bit of a loss on the hardware upfront and planned for the real profit to come through the DLC all along. I'm not saying I feel I "owe" it to them to buy the DLC, but I personally would have gladly paid $250 for Rock Band so I guess the money I'm spending now in DLC was already budgeted back when the first "Welcome to the Jungle" gameplay video was leaked.

EDIT: It doesn't hurt that with the recent Dell $25 off $25.01 coupon deals that you could buy MS Points for exactly half price. I have three 4000 point cards ($50 each normally) already shipped and on their way for $25 apiece. :)

Not trying to troll or anything, but I'm so glad I never bought into these "music" games.

I ended it all years ago with DDR. Can't stand peripheral based games anymore.

On the subject of price, at least you didn't buy a game knowing that your stuck forever with what they give you and having to pay out for another disk to get anything new.

Okay... couple things. First: the game is $60 not $170... the rest is controller costs and don't count. Second: the game comes with a little over 60 songs so it's about $1 per song. Each song over DLC costs between $1-$2 depending on the song and if you bought a pack or not. It's about the same cost as what you got on a disc except you get to pick your songs.

Yeah it could be cheaper, but the RIAA forces licence fees on them as well as the labor needed to write each song for 4 different instruments for 4 different difficulties. About as cheap as it can be IMO.

The controller cost DOES COUNT. Without that the game is worthless. end of story

If you have the 360 version and already had 2 GH guitars and a USB mic (as I did), you can play it just fine with 3 of the 4 "instruments" by buying just the $60 game.

If you have the PS3 version, you can play the game as Karaoke Revolution: Rock Band Edition with any USB mic. Hopefully Activision will drop it's block of the patch so that PS3 users can use their GH controllers with RB sooner rather than later.

i understand that the game comes with controllers, and that its a decent value, but it doesnt change the fact that the game costs $170, and that I spent that much on it. at 3 songs per week, there will be 150 songs + last years dlc by next year january? thats what... potentially 300+ bucks? its the kind of thing where you look back and say to yourself "holy shit, I spent a lot of money on this thing", hence money pit.

I understand where you're coming from... but you're making it sound like this cost of dlc is being forced on us when it's not. It may be a money pit, but it's a pit that has a giant sign in front saying "jump in or don't, your choice".

Doesn't the pit also say "Are you sure you want to jump in?" right before you start to fall.
