www.speg.com
Hey guys. I got my domain "speg.com" on monday. So I set up the host, and then I changed the nameservers at my registar. That's all I had to do to get this all going right? 'Cause it's been 3 days now, and speg.com still takes you to the temporary page the registar put there.

Was I suppossed to but the nameserver IP beside the nameserver? I did, but I thought I read somewhere you shouldn't. Hmm....

NEW QUESSTION AS OF FRIDAY/18

Alright folks, it looks like speg.com might finally be up! Thats what others have been telling me, but when I go to "www.speg.com" I still get that yucky old page. But if i omit the "www" and just enter "speg.com" it works just fine. Why?

I don't think you have to but I'm not too sure - what registrar are you using? GoDaddy doesn't ask for an IP.

Also, wait another day or so - propagation is a weird beast that takes a lot of time sometimes.

Domain propogation could take up to 72 hours.

I also have an AddAction.net webhosting account but my domain propogation only took 6 hours :p probably because I used NameCheap.com which rocks!

I would give it until Saturday morning.

Or if you cannot wait, consider transferring to a different domain registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap.

3 days is ridiculously long to wait and I did a /whois on your domain, looks like you entered in the name servers correctly (you do not need to do the IP just the name servers).

clear out your browser cache too. you might actually have propagated, but your browser is using an old page.

Go to Domainwhitepages.com type in speg.com and click go, scroll way down until you see

D'oh!

I think I figured it out.

Look at your "welcome to AddAction" e-mail, got it up?

D'oh!

I thought I had it all figured out, I thought the name servers should be .net not .com but .com is correct.

I dunno what to say.

when you do a whois you will see the namservers that will be used.

i did a dig from the root nameservers (internic i think) that the changes have to be propagated through.
once the addaction nameservers have propagated through you will be able to dig from the root servers all the way down to the addaction servers.

there are 13 (i think) root nameservers spread across the world.
any DNS changes you make for a domain have to be propagated through these servers so everyone in the world can access your site or do whatever.
doing a dig performs a query on the server(s) you specify, and you want to look for DNS records for speg.com
this first query returns a list of servers that serve .com domains, once again you query for DNS records for speg.com
this second query returns (at the moment) the ns1 and ns2.interimnameserver.com
once the addaction nameservers have completely propagated and your domain is accessible you will be able to dig one step at a time from the root servers all the way down to addaction servers so you can see the propagation path that will be taken when you make a DNS change to your domain.

I'll bet you if you were to sign up with NameCheap.com, transferred your domain (make sure your e-mail address is correct in your WHOIS) and updated your name servers your webpage would be up and running by tomorrow morning or you could wait another few weeks :)

Only costs $8.88/yr

Then I would either wait until Saturday (which should be plenty of time) or contact their tech support department (if they even have one).

After your 60 days is up, transfer it to a better domain registrar!

Alrighty, but becasue the addaction nameserver is appearing on some of the WHOIS results, then we know it's starting to work, right?

I think it's a good sign, but it's just taking a very very long time to propogate.

the intro took too long to start. i was about to close the window, thinking that it was just a black page as a place holder. heh

hehe, it's not really an intro. Just a placeholder till I set up the main page. Which is going, sorta ok. i finally got greymatter set up, now just gotta write some stuff.
