more tv tuner card questions..

I was interested in the Adaptec VideOh Media Center.. But..
All I want to do is record shows, edit bits out and save selected parts of shows on my PC.

Since I guess I have no real need for remote control, is ther any reason to get this over the Asus TV tuner card or the Leadtek 2000 that everyone seems to like? It's kind of expensive.

I'd like a good free online TV Guide - do all these cards offer access to one?

I'd also like to be able to program to record multiple things in the future, and to NOT use PC resources. Do all of these better ones have encoding/decoding in hardware?

The ability to search by keyword, and to see 16 channels onscreen would be nice, but def not essential.

Thanks!

Then buy a Tivo 🙂 Even a card with hardware MPEG1/2 is going to take up some CPU/RAM. For a free program guide, check TitanTV for a list of card makers.

The Asus requires resources to capture. It does a very good job, but it's not tax free. 🙂

Most of them use titantv.com (try it), it's not bad as you can do the one-click scheduling thing, and it's free! System resources will always be tied up, but if you record in the old mpeg1 style, it doesn't really pound the system hard on any P4 grade system.

I have a p4 2.2g, so maybe the resource demands arent that great if a card had hardware mpeg1/2??

Do all the better cards sunch as the leadtek and asus have hardware mpeg1/2?
