Ok. I fixed the problem with the led on my moniter always being orange when i turn on the comp that i recently built. (The problem was that i went too fast and forgot to put the thermal paste on my cpu and nearly fried it. Luckily i got away with it and it still works.) Afterwards, i installed windows 2000 pro and the drivers that came on the various cds from my hardware.

Now my problems:

1) Auto-restart after windows starts up, blue screen errors, 200gb hard drive reads as approx. 130gb, screen lock-up when a cd-r is put in most of the time, more various error messages.

my solution to error #1) download service pack 4

2) I am unable to connect to the internet (it cant seem to find any modems when the motherboard has integrated ethernet and i have cable service.)

my solution to error #2) ??????sp4??????, i have no idea

Things ive tried:

Putting in my 56k compaq presario modem into a pci slot. It couldnt read it.
Ive also tried useing my other comp to find a sp4 that i could download and put onto a cd for the new comp, but all the downloads ive found seem to want to auto install.

Can someone please help me. Its not fun haveing a brand new comp that takes me 15 minutes to start up from all the auto-resets and its like playing russian roulet with 5 bullets every time i want to load files from my other comp with a cd-r.

Also, if someone knows where I can download the sp4, that doesnt automaticly install, so I can put it on cd then please tell me. Thanks

Cronith here is a Link that explains how to add SP4
to a Win 2K CD.

1. You can try google or MS knowledge base for your specific error messages, or post them. Win2K doesn't recognize hard drives over 137gigs(NTFS), I'm not sure if SP4 addresses this or not. You may need to partition your drive.

2. I don't understand, are you installing a modem because you can't connect using onboard ethernet?? Is it enabled in the bios??
