I found 3 barebones in the trash the other day. I've tested only 1 (an msi 6368 w/ 700 celeron) and everything seems to work okay but the usb ports. I haven't tested the front usb connections. Another board is some emachines mobo with a 633 celery and the other some amd <300 board + chip.

Why would someone throw these out?

They were just sittin there, next to 3 power supplies on top of 2 empty cases. I guess the guy expected pillaging to ensue if he didn't take them out of the cases

Anyone know if usb ports can get blown out? I updated the bios to the latest and installed some patch for via 4in1 drivers, still no juice.

for a subgigahertz machine? Bah, trash. I have no use for a machine like that. I fix those machines at my high school but would hate to own one. I guess if I never owned a 1.5GHz machine then it probably wouldnt bother me. I just love the stability I get with win2k and my fastish processor. If I could it, I would probably give it to the high School, of try to sell the CPU/RAM/Mobo combo or something. We have a local HSC that would take it off my hands.

hehe, I do remember buying a 486 and thinking what hot sh!t this is...

I guess its possible for it to fail. Make sure the mobo isnt the problem. Or the cable, try using another set of USB ports on it and see if they work. Or take those USB and plug it into a working mahcine. This is assuming they arent the kind attached to the motherboard.

Yeh there's 2 attached at the back (which aren't working), and some jumpers you plug into for the front; Maybe I'll just measure the voltage at the unused set to see if there's any volts. I'd have to take my other computer apart to remove the front usb ports for testing
