I play FPS and surf the net. Would I see any benefit form another 8 gig in the system listed in sig?

Probably won't see much of a difference... except, RAM is cheap right now, and future GPUs are going to have 8GB VRAM, so you'll want twice that in system RAM, because they often cache the VRAM in system RAM too, and you'll want at least 8GB for the OS and game.

So consider getting a 2x8GB kit for $50-60. If you get the right specs, it might even work with your existing kit, so you could have 24GB of RAM.

I can get another 8 gig exact same memory for 42 shipped from the egg...sounds reasonable. I have a decent VID card now(in sig) but it has 4 gig of memory. Does that mean that it wants 4 more of vram, and I should have 16gig system memory now anyway?

I'm saying, when / if you upgrade your video card, the replacement will likely have 8GB VRAM. At that point, you would want 16GB (or more, potentially) of system RAM.

Modern games will use pagefile more often when low on ram. You don't want that. Hell, even 980 Ti with its 6GB video framebuffer is recommended 16 gigs by Nvidia.

32 gigs is a good amount of ram today, I say. 16 gigs is my recommended minimum for the budget gaming builds today. 8 gigs you will be asking for trouble/stutter/etc. If not today, but soon enough.

SSD can help when low on ram, however... So if you can't max out your RAM, get a fast SSD instead. At the very least.

P.S. Tomb Raider with very high textures already uses more than 8 gigs of ram @ 1080p. It will use less if you only have 8 gigs of ram, though. Compromise here, compromise there. To hell. More RAM is always better. I know when I upgraded from 16 > 32 my pagefile activity decreased dramatically, during gaming, etc.

This is all true for Windows 10 x64 Pro v1511.
