More than 4c/8t for 1150 coming soon/ever?

With the possibility of some future software being core-hungry (not to mention folding!) I'm wondering if the 1150 socket will get a 6-core/12-thread CPU anytime soon?

Or will socket 2011 get an 8/16 even sooner? (Without losing great single-threaded performance!)

No. the best chance would be Skylake in 2015.

LGA2011R2(Not current LGA2011) will get 8 cores in 2014 and DDR4 with Haswell-E.

8 core probably on next gen enthusiast/Haswell-E.
No way more than 4 cores on 1150. Maybe on future platforms replacing 1150, but by that time 4 cores will probably replace dual core i3s.

Sounds like I should either buy the best deal on 1150 I can and sell it in 9-12 mos or blow the wad on new-2011 and keep it!

Of course, I need something now and can't wait for any new 8c to arrive...

I should just go 4770k and smile about it. ;)

I would not spend huge money on the "possibility" that "future" software may be core hungry.

Unless you have a very specific need, 1150 will last you for 2+ years easily while delivering top notch performance along with the latest features.

You need that for an avatar. ;)

Thanks for the tips, gang. I just can't justify the cost of 2011 stuff, even for folding.
Looks like a Xeon E3-1230v3 or i7-4770k 1150 for me.
