More SSD price drops coming?

Rumor TT: Toshiba cuts NAND prices 20 to 25% today

I just read a couple of rumor stories that Toshiba is cutting their NAND prices. Apparently, Toshiba cut NAND production a couple months back, hoping to raise prices. But Micro stepped in to fill in the gap and took some market share. Now Toshiba has to restore production levels and cut prices to compete.

This is good news for consumers looking for even lower priced SSDs. How good is this for consumers? Well, this is a quote from one of my inside sources:

"Full on price war started today. I just got news from ******, all [our] SSDs are getting cut by around 25%"

Is it time to start eyeballing the 240/256GB SSDs???

There have been a full blown SSD price war.... Samsung, Kingston, Intel, Corsair, Crucial and OCZ have been full blown price cutting to drive out other smaller/newer SSD players like patriot, mushkin, sandisk, etc...

I bought my Samsung 830 128GB for $134 (and I thought that was an awesome deal) and now its $90! D:

Yesterday Crucial M4 128gb was for $80 on amazon, I'd expect that the prices would reach that pretty soon, maybe about a month.

Personally I'll wait till around November, cause I need a 256gb one (Samsung or Crucial or Plextor) and can not afford the current prices.

Well I hedged my bets by getting a 256GB Plextor M3 from Newegg for $140AR on Monday.

If prices drop more then I can simply buy another and use an SSD for both OS/programs and data! But I'd probably be looking for a Tier 1 SSD for less than $100 before I jump again..........

This could get very interesting since a 256GB SSD may cost about the same as an entry level HDD and be a better choice; cutting into the revenues of Seagate and WD who deserve some punishment for their post Thai flood greed and limited innovation over the last 24 months.

Great new when will these take effect ?

I'm just speculating, but I enjoy spouting off. I think the real competition won't start until next year. Hard drive production has recovered nicely, but it's still trying to satisfy pent up demand. The most desirable drives aren't being discounted and the pre-Xmas season is usually has the highest demand of the year.

After the New Year, though, as demand slackens, Seagate will try to regain its number one market share as well as restore a reputation for quality after the 7200.11 fiasco by slashing HDD prices. SSD and memory chip manufacturers will have to compete against each other as well as trying to position themselves as reasonably priced alternatives to bulk storage.

So, I'm still patiently waiting for the continued price reductions that we've come to expect in technology products.

I see no one getting 512GB drives ......... I wanted all my stuff in one place. All pics , videos, data, apps all games, I have 16 games.... and my DAW. and I got 140GB free. 256GB was not a option of mine as that is too little. I wanted to match my external which is 500GB soo I can make windows image on it.

I see no one getting 512GB drives .........
I got mine a few months back when on sale for $400US (inc delivery from US)

I want to hold off getting another until 1TB drives are around. Would perfer that size to be a PCI-E version, but if a 1TB SSD gets to $400, I will probably buy it.
