More Shutting Down Problems

Hey i could really use some help... My computer wont shut down normally instead it just goes back to the boot up screen and continues to turn back on.

I?m pretty sure it?s the video card but I already returned it once and warranty ended along time ago. So is there any thing I can do to fix it??? (Or do i need to get a new one)???

So you're saying that it "restarts" when you try to "shut down" ?

I don' t see how that could be video card related. If anything it's probably your motherboard or XP going wonky. Has it been an ongoing thing or did it start happening recently ?

I seriously doubt it's directly related to the video card going bad in any way. When you have a video card plugged in you are drawing more power than when you are using the onboard and I see you have a Dell PSU that you clearly scavenged from somewhere because they certainly didn't sell you an Athlon. Dell PSUs are made to run the systems Dell puts them in and very little more - maybe an extra couple drives, but that's all. It could also just be XP sending the wrong signal to the motherboard because somehow the power configuration is messed up. I'd reinstall XP first then look into a real PSU (even a really crappy cheap one will probably be better than what you have).

Go buy a decent Fortron 450 watt power supply (I'm pretty sure that the Dell one will be less than 300 watts) and then come back and see if that solves your problem. My old Duron on a K7S5A with a 300 watt power supply with a whole 8 amps (!) on the 12v rail started having issues with shutting down (it would hang on the "windows is shutting down..." screen forever)when I upgraded the video card, which I never really solved until the PSU died and when it was replaced, the shutdown issue mysteriously vanished.

I?m probably going to reinstall xp and i am upgrading to a new psu and mobo when I upgrade so i hope its not a problem in the future thx guys.

Travis, I'd suggest starting with the quickest/easiest stuff first. Then progress to more time consuming. Lastly, those options which require $.

I.e., gfx card drivers (they can cause all sorts of problems) first. A repair install second. A full-blown reformat/reinstall third. Only if none of those worked would I spent $ (new PSU etc)

Good luck with it.
