Absolutely ridiculous. A HS student that had a two inch pocket knife in his locked car? You've got to be kidding me. Liberal educator idiocy taken to an extreme. Makes my blood boil.

How is this a liberal vs conservative issue?
no, it's really not.Still, some school administrators argue that it is difficult to distinguish innocent pranks and mistakes from more serious threats

I'll bet these extreme policies are a consequence of the fear of lawsuits. In today's climate, ANY school that experiences a knife attack knows that the victim's family will sue, and the only possible defense will be a zero-tolerance policy that's rigorously enforced to the point of stupidity.
Given the current environment of fear, administrators know their jobs and careers are on the line if preventable violence occurs on school grounds. Can you blame them for implementing these policies?
Not saying it's right, but if YOU were a principle or a member of the school board, and your livelihood were at stake, what would YOU do?

The NEA has very strong liberal ties and has been a strong advocate for zero tolerance policies in our schools. Maybe this is one 'liberal' issue you might want to examine a little closer. All things liberal are not necessarily good? How can that be! Hopefully common sense prevails at some point...it's ridiculous that rational people didn't think this through a little better...the operative word being 'rational'. And these people are 'educating' our children...nice.Originally posted by: Siddhartha

No way. He is one of the few who know Obama a great leader. But he's right that the schools don't need to teach it because it's obvious to those with education.
