Are there more right-handed or left-handed pitchers in Major League Baseball?

The wife and I are having a disagreement.

I would assume there are more right-handed pitchers.

It's probably 65-70% right-handers, I'd guess.

It's probably higher than that.

I doubt no team even has more than 3 lefties... for the most part.

From http://query.nytimes.com/gst/f...F933A25756C0A96F958260

Why are lefties so precious? Mostly because they are so difficult to find. Studies have shown that while 5 to 30 percent of the world's population has some left-handed skills, roughly 13 percent can be considered lefties. Yet 30 percent of the pitchers on opening day rosters this season were lefty, and general managers work overtime to raise that percentage.

There is more demand for left handed pitchers than right hander pitchers, but that's because teams want situational left handed pitchers to get left handed batters out.

More righties for sure. Lefties are at such a premium, you can make a decent career for yourself out of throwing 85 MPH junkballs, as long as you have a little bit of control.

Yes, I tried to get my son to throw leftie but he eventually started throwing everything rightie despite starting out leftie himself. He's hitting left-handed though.

I teased my wife that I wanted him to grow up a left-handed closer so that we could retire early. :)
