I live in Northern Virginia, and ups was supposed to deliver a package to me today (the 17th)

So i look at the tracking and notice the package is "released for delivery" down in charlottesville va! (almost 2 hours south of me)

so i'm like what the heck???

I just looked at the updated tracking info, check this out:

Jan 17, 2003 11:49 P.M. LAUREL, MD, US ARRIVAL SCAN
8:15 P.M. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, US DEPARTURE SCAN
7:42 P.M. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, US ORIGIN SCAN
4:11 A.M. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, US OUT FOR DELIVERY
4:10 A.M. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, US ARRIVAL SCAN
12:29 A.M. LAUREL, MD, US DEPARTURE SCAN

yep, they sent it to charlottesville, then RETURNED it all the way back to Laurel MD (obviously realizing they screwed up)

how dumb is this company?

now it's the weekend, so i won't get it till monday or tuesday.....grrrrrrr

Well they were supposed to deliver a package to me yesterday, but delivered it like a mile down the road instead. So I had to drive through the stinking snow to get the thing from some fat lady whose porch they had left it on. Truly a first rate job.

Most of the drivers at UPS are making over $22 an hour driving around and delivering boxes, doesnt sound dumb to me.

UPS has always done well by me except for this package I'm waiting for now. It's been sitting in their facility in my town for two days now. I wonder if they deliver on MLK day...

I happen to work for UPS, I have no problem with UPS bashing, but this perticular error was not by UPS the company, but by one of the crappy loader peons making 8.50 an hour. Its called a misload, if you don't read the package right it goes to the wrong place. Most of UPS's internal employees are young kids in college that don't really care about your package. I do think UPS should implement a program that would make the scanner beep or whatever if a package is scanned into the wrong truck. That is my explanation hope it helps. Now on with the UPS bashing.

My UPS guy does the weirdest thing...he will knock on your door as quietly as he possibly can so you don't hear him and then he runs off so you can't get your package. I never understood this because it seems like he wants to come back everyday to try again. Is this a game that UPS plays or is there like a bonus for going the whole three days without delivering the package?

Funny you mention this. Have no problems with packages dropped off that don't need a signature but when it's a package that requires a signature the driver comes all the way out here pulls in front, turns off the truck and doesn't even try to deliver the package. He just comes to the door and sticks on it a yellow slip that says to come to the Distribution Center 15 miles back into town. The Distribution Center in our town is hardly ever open to the public, only a couple of hours in the morning and then it is locked. I tell people in our area if they need to send anything that require a signature to send via Fedex. :disgust: :|

I use USPS before them.....

So Do I. Everything I have ever shipped with UPS has been lost, stolen, or damaged. But it could just be my bad luck. I probably only shipped via UPS 5 times or so.

UPS is cool. The only thing I think is a little weird is they will just leave my packages at the door, knock and then run back to the truck.

They used to knock and wait for you to answer the door, then hand the package to you.

I swear the last few times ive received a delivery they just toss it on my doorstep and run away.

Well, they're carrying a little box with your name on it from across the country. The system's not going to be perfect all the time. That said, I've never had a bad experience with UPS; the guy brought my digicam yesterday on MLK day!

wtf? $45k/year just to drive and walk up/down stairs? thats better than being a cabbie

I personally love UPS. Their IT is so advanced - what other company lets you see the gut of their internal operations (tracking your package?) If they make a mistake, the tracking info is there so you can call them out and hopefully get it fixed.

Also, I've never had a problem with a package getting lost using UPS. I would definitely use them (and always have) over USPS and FedEx.

I interviewed for one of those 8.50/hr jobs (and got turned down)...

I got to see the unloading/loading/sorting areas here in the NE Minneapolis MN area. Got to see them stuffing the boxes in the trucks.. One funny thing was that the sorting into different area codes was done by a couple of big sweaty guys basically flinging boxes onto different conveyer belts. *Fling* splat *Fling* splat *Fling* splat. Other areas sort their stuff by machine, but not in the this particular place.

Pack your UPS boxes with lots o stuffing :)
