More RAM for dual core

I plan to build a new 939 system. I plan to get a 3000+ now then upgrade to dual core when they come out. I think only a BIOS flash is needed.

My question is I planned to go with 2 X 512 Meg of RAM. Would it be better since I plan to upgrade to dual core to go 2 X 1 Gig? This would give 1 Gig per core.

The RAM controller isn't "per core". It's a common RAM controller shared by both cores inside the same CPU package.

I don't think there will be any requirement to have a certain amount of ram per core, as I believe the cores will share the memory. But in the areas where dual core will shine, video editing/encoding and multitasking etc... more ram is a good thing. I would think 2gb would be a smart addition to a dual core settup.

939 mobo's are not Numa aware.. So it won't make a diff. But 2 - 1gig sticks are better than 4 - 512mb stick.
BTW in a numa system like the K8W, each cpu has a dedicated memory bus, so each cpu has to have 2 mem sticks, they don't share the memory.
Also you have to have a numa aware operating system.
