More puppy fun

Well, things are going pretty well with Hudson, but we had another "episode" today.

He isn't really fond of being left alone - at all.

I put him in his crate and left the room for a total of about 2 minutes. In that time he had gotten himself into a crying frenzy and smeared sh!t all over his crate. My girlffriend gave him an immediate bath while I went on crate duty.

I no longer like wire framed crates....

im so jealous of your adorable puppy...

can i have him? please???

LOL that's normal. Put him in the crate with a snack or his favorite toy. That should ease him a bit. But yeah, they'll get upset the first few times. I use to feel so guilty leaving my dog in her crate when i went to school, i could hear her crying when i left the house. But eventually she calmed down, and actually liked the crate. The crate would be her 'quiet' time when she needed it (when kids were over and bothering her), and she would often go in it on her own.

What kind of name is "hudson", lemme guess the wifey picked right 😀? You shoulda gave him a manly name like "chainsaw". One of my cousin has a Pitball and they named him "Henry", he's the calmest and most polite dog I ever seen considering its a pitbull. Shoulda called him "Rambo"😛.

This is a large part of why I'd prefer a cat in an apartment. Dogs tend to prefer more space to run in and all that.

Still, seems pretty normal for a puppy. And he is very cute. One thing that I would suggest is that when he does something like that, you might want to literally rub his nose in it. Make sure that he knows you are upset with him. Love him up after you punish him though.

That is an awesome looking puppy😀I wish my dog wasn't camera shy.. your dog loves the attention.

I agree with Moralpanic. The dog will get used to her crate and will love it as her own where she can always be and no one will bother her. She will get used to it.

One of the things we did with our dogs when we first got them, was to put towels over top of their cage. A breeders book on puppies said it makes them feel as though its THEIR den, and not a cage that they can look out and see others doing things without them. Try that and see if it works. Ours responded well to it.

Actually I think "Hudson" is a great dog name. (Huddy)

did you know you can train a dog to use a kitty litter type box?

the only way you can train a dog not to do something is to catch him in the act and tell him "no."

you have to leave him alone as a puppy or else he'll cry forever everytime you leave as an adult.

Yeah, my dog is trained to do that in the washroom. She has her own litter box, and our cat has her own.

Somebody suggested putting a towel over the cage, and yeah, that's a good idea. Throw a worn shirt of yours in there as well, since he'll be more comfortable with your scent. Feed him in the cage would help as well.

But throw a towel over the cage and he'll eventually make that his den.

yup a shirt or a blanket with your scent will help him out lots!

how big is the crate? you have to make sure that it fits him at his current size, not when he is 2 years old, he will piss/poop in a corner of the crate and that ruins the whole purpose of crate training him. The crate needs to be the right size, otherwise if it is too big he will not treat it as his den and he will poop in it.

the first few times you put him in will be tough. I would try putting him in the crate and rewarding him with a treat when he can stay quiet for 5 seconds...10 seconds and so on. give him lots of praise for "quiet time" then give him a treat. Use the phrase quiet time when putting him in the crate, it will help associate the crate with positive training, not negative.

the towel over the crate is a great idea, that is what we did with our pup and it helped sooth him a TON.

dont give up on the crate! just remember to feed your pup and put him directly into the crate right afterwards...then 10-15 mins later let him out and take him straight to the paper for his business. It works trust me!

also look at the ingredients in your puppy food. Stay away from wheats, corn and BHD? (or BDH or something like that) basically wheats and corns are pure sugar to your puppy, you will make him spaz out!! and the BDH (or BHD I dont remember) preservatives are pure sugar for him too!! getting him on good puppy food will help control him alot.

I have a springer going through puppy kindergarten right now, he is going to be one awesome dog! but it takes alot of training and positive reinforcement.

good luck! cute puppy!!

I think I ordered it a while ago. They tell you at the end of the call to expect it in 4-6 weeks...

Like I said in the other thread, he looks like a little "Hitler".

Seriously... if one Hitler hadn't ruined the name... your dog should be called Hitler. Haha!

My only problem with pets in general is that it really takes a lot of time to take care of them.
For bigger pets, keeping house clean is another problem.
Otherwise, I'd love to get a dog or cat...
