Aren't ya glad you moved out of Georgia, dmcowen? ;)

Wow...the fun never ends in GA!

And my daughter's best friend just moved to Atlanta with her family and goes to a Gwinnett County high school. Poor girl. :(

Is it a small school? Some of those small, rural school districts are pretty whack. I know I got pulled into the office by the principal in my High School (graduating class of ~80) one time for wearing a yin-yang necklace. Principal said he had complaints that it was a "devil-worshipping cult" symbol. I explained it to him as best I could, but he simply handed me a sheet of paper "from the School Board" that listed pictures of all these "offensive" symbols. Some were obvious (pentagram, etc), but there were a few that just made me shake my head. The yin-yang was one, the "peace" sign was another (represents a 'broken cross in a circle'? WTF?). There were several native american symbols, as well. But the one that really floored me was the Star of David!

Needless to say, I'm glad I finally moved out of B.F.E., Louisiana. ;)

Gwinnett is a large county in the suburbs of Atlanta (guess you didn't read my post right above yours). Rather expensive homes in that area from what I saw.

Damn, kids (heads) in my HS used to wear shirts with marijuana leaves and stuff and no problem except being labled as losers by most of us. What ever happened to personal freedom?

Star of David is a well known gang sign in the US (crips used it heavily i believe, not sure if they still do), unfortunate, yes.

As far as yin-yang and peace sign, thats pretty dumb, probably hippie-phobia

In a high school elective art class... we had to design and paint a wall paper design. I did a recurring pot leaf in negative/positive colored squares. There was soooo much less PC then.

When My daughter was in school, I was real thankful for school uniforms. None of the bullsh!t. Everyone knew what was expected of them, and there was nothing open to interpretation. The biggest thing they worried about was measuring the girls skirt length with a dollar bill to ensure it was not too short. And there was none of the 'what am I gonna wear today' stuff.

;)

That's pretty cool:)

I'm glad I grew up in the liberal 70's or I would be doing "20 to life" for some of the stuff they bother kids about today.. My brothers and I used to make my own tri-iodide/ammonium bombs and blow up mailboxes and pay telephones for fun.:p My son and another boy recently got suspended for fighting for two weeks and had to get couseling. All I cared about if if he won or not. i'm pretty hands off.

The US is a "free" country only in a limited sense.

The pussification of America.....

Yup. I think it's boys spending too much time around thier mothers (maybe no father at all). I notice when I travel and come back the change takes place even in a short time. They'll say words I don't allow like "I can't".. "I'm tired"... " My x hurts" etc.. I can't stand whineing and hate busy bodies even more.

The stupidity that comes out of Georgia never ceases to amaze me or the world.

I grew up a little East of Hempstead, Long Island New York.

I taught Computer Classes near that school for Gwinnett County for the Adult Ed classes at night.

I feel sorry for your friends daughter.

Gwinnett County is one of the highest populated Counties and highest amount of students in the Country. Only school systems like New York and LA have more.

Louisiana is not far behind Georgia at all as far as have to feel sorry for the kids.

Actually, idiotic administrators and teachers are one of the reasons why I am teaching.

I figure SOMEONE needs to be there behind the scenes to make sure the kids get a fair shake... and I also like being able to watch out for my own rugrats while I am at it.

<--was a child victim of the school system she now works for :p

I don't think the school overreacted. They had no way to know there was a town called Hempstead in New York. I'd never heard of it either.

This is what the U.S. has come to, a fuggin joke. :|

Truthfully, notice the majority of these type problems continues to come from the South, especially Georgia. The South needs a serious A$$ kicking again.

Oh, I agree..."no way to know"...How could one ever hope to find such information in a school?

oh, wait.

As soon as they made an effort, they got their answer.

Oh, and you don't suppose they could have looked up the area code (which was written on the shirt) in the telephone book?

Oh, yeah, it was a school, so there'd be "no way" they could do that.
