Ok. Just got through formatting my hd...and I put in my WinXP Boot CD and it brings up a Blue screen with Windows Setup written at the top in gray.. and at the bottom there is a gray bar where it says... "Setup is loading files".. then shows the files it is loading to the side.

After that.. in the gray bar it says, Starting Windows.

Now it brings up this menu that has Repair and all that stuff... BUT.. it only stays up for a split second at the most.. and then my computer just shuts off. I have to do a power cycle type thing for it to come back on. I have installed XP on this PC before.. so there shouldn't be a problem.

The CD does have a few minor scratches.. but I doubt that has anything to do with it. I have tried leaving the case open in case of heating issues..

any ideas to what is causing this?

RAM?

hmm, check your pc health status in the bios and report the temps, voltages etc. If it is not that then it's probably Ram or HDD corruption.

I honestly believe that it is a RAM issue because since I have had the computer.. it will shut off just like that when I am playing certain games on the computer. When the computer was working right.. I tried switching the RAM into another slot and when I ran the game it usually shuts off on.. it wouldn't do it anymore.. but it would shut down the game giving me an error SOMETIMES.

Is it ok to get RAM from another computer and test it out?

You can test the RAM with memtest86.
Just test one stick at a time with about 6 passes

If you don't have memtest86, then just google it.
