More power from draft n WAP?

I am getting lousy wireless reception in my room. I live in a basement apartment and the 802.11g WAP is on the first floor. From my room I get poor reception but if I move my PC into the dining room I get great reception. I went to the local computer shop and they tried to sell me a draft-n WAP claiming it put out more power and would solve my problem. Is that true?

I'm going to make one of those windsurfer parabolic antennas and see if that helps any.
 
Draf-N has the same output power (typically 33mW).

However, it has a special Antenna arrangement that should improve the Wireless propagation.

By how much? It really depends on the environment it can be a lot in open environment. In close environment, it is anybody guess.
