where i live, i am 1200+ ft above sea level and i recently started working near the coast. Driving around town before i go to work, starting from a stoplight, my car pulls harder.

I'm quite aware of the affects of altitude on acceleration, but i didn't really think 1200 ft would have that big an effect.

You yourself, not just your car, should feel stronger too.

It's like taking off training weights after you've had them on for a while.

Maybe someone strapped a supercharger on his car when he wasn't looking?

Maybe someone strapped a supercharger on his muscles when he wasn't looking?

All other variables being the same, he'd have 6% less HP at 1200 ft then at sea level (or very close to). Now I dunno about you, but I think I'd kinda notice 6%.

That means a difference of nearly 50 horsepower! He did say he was driving a Viper Venom 800tt, right?

Also depends on the temperature.

If it's 30F at 1200 feet and 70F at sea level, he might not see a decrease at all. ;)

Dunno about that at about 900' I ran a 9.15 stock in the 1/8th. At -175', I ran a 8.89. So anyway, I'd notice it too.

BTW, just happened to look up the Viper Venom 800tt.... 0-60 in 3.1s, 1/4 in 10.2. What a freakin beast. Faster AND so much more refined than an Enzo Ferrari. :p

Except a Venom is gonna be harder to keep from playin Sit n Spin with. My armchair racing tells me the GT times are more obtainable and repeatable, whereas the Vipers would be trickier to get.

I have read, that for every 2000' gain in altitude 10% is lost. At 10,000' your running at 50%.
All things being equal...temp & humidity.

Turbos rule at high elivations because they will spool up higher in thin air.

Turbocharged engines are not affected as much by the higher altitude, whereas naturally-aspirated and positive-displacement supercharged engines are. Turbos will spin as fast as they can, and the wastegate(s) regulates the boost pressure, so boost @ 1 bar @ sea level can still be 1 bar @ 2000 feet.
