The article is wrong.

Dubya obtained 62 million votes in the 04. The only thing that hasn't occured since reagan was elected(either terms) was the winner be ahead by 10+ points ahead in popular vote.

And unless I'm mistaken anyone can call in on American Idol.

Maybe you should focus on your AP CS class than bring up a near year old article.

I think it's unfair to use statistics that are 20 years apart.

Moreover, the persons eligible to vote for AI are probably significantly more than those eligible for voting on the presidency. Although, I could be wrong.

And that article is about 10 months old.

At least the AI votes count. Wish our common vote elected presidents, instead of the electoral college. :(

Fixed. These are not unique voters like in a state (state=national) election.

I think the OP should be concentrating on his java homework more than BS news articles.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure you have to be alive to vote on American Idol:p

Stop chewing Korean gum.

I'm sure more people would vote for the president if they could pick up the phone and dial a number and do it multiple times

Some serious flaws to this logic:

A. to vote for AI, you don't exactly have to be 18, a citizen, and a registered voter in the U.S.
B. I certainly wouldn't put faith in the security of the AI voting system (easy voting processes do get more voters, but they are also far more vulnerable) - even then, the worst case scenario is that an already decent singer ends up winning a flawed election because "America's vote" doesn't really come into play until the contestants have been reduced down to legitimate contenders, and even then any rigged voting wouldn't really have much effect until the the later rounds.
C. losing can be just as good as winning, perhaps even better - look at Clay Aiken.

You have to be at least 21 yo, an US citizen, and be registered to vote for President.

What do you have to do to vote for American Idol? Have access to a phone?

most people cannot name a single Senator from their state

most people cannot name their Representative in the House

most people cannot name their state legislators

quite a few could not even tell you who controls each House of Congress

yet they still vote.

Hell, people who don't pay taxes get to vote for people who will take money from tax payers and give it to them. If thats not a crock what is?

No thanks. I want it back to where it was originally. The EC and the original Constitution made this *Republic* strong. We are not a democracy and should not be.

AI allows you to vote as many times as you want or are able. Comparing the two is just stupid. If you can't make it in Psych, get a journalism degree.

its also extremely convenient to vote for AI. all you need is a phone. you don't have to drive anywhere. also there are no restrictions on voters for AI like others have said.

get off your @$$ and go somewhere to vote vs. phone in to vote. Hmm...
