More money to burn/waste, 1.6GHz Kryotechs next month

"Why don't they use INTEL processors?"

good question.. wasn't there a reason that was explained before? I thought it has to do with Intel not allowing them to, but I don't know for sure...

🙂~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One question - will they sell you a bare-bones system? (Case, CPU, cooling system, motherboard) I'd much rather go for a SCSI disk subsystem if I were going to shell out those kind of simolians.

Hold on, I'm getting promoted soon . . . cha ching!

I think I know what Xerox Man is getting for X-Mas! 😀

umm the chip is an o/ced 1GH chip... could be even lower stock speed. The case cools the chip to sub-zero temperatures in order to get it to that speed... My guess is this system will cost about 4-5k w/o monitor factoring about $1000 profit on each unit; kryotech is greedy and their systems are way overpriced

[Sarcasm]No shi+?[/Sarcasm]

I'm not sure what the last Super G cost, but I think it was around 3500 for a full system without monitor.

[defending]"You think they will sell the chip seperate on the side as well??" I doubt anyone here has the proper cooling to get near the speeds they can, that's why I noted that it isn't a 1.6GHz core to naka[/defending]

I didn't want to buy a bare CPU. I wanted to get a bare bones system . . . and they have typically sold their bare-bones setups for around $1300 . . . I wouldn't call that overpriced.

Perfect timing to put the P4 to shame. Even thought there may be alot of debates about the differences I hope some site posts a comparison between the Kyroteah system and a similarly clocked P4.

Actually it will most likely be a 1.1-1.3Ghz Tbird @ 1.6GHz, and yes the system looks like a winner. Price? Around $5000 for the whole thing. I can do 1.3GHz (PIII 850MHz cb0) with a TEC watercooler (-15C), and even 1.5-1.6GHz with a Vapochill/3layer-TEC-stack (-50C). My props to Kryotech, i have seen some of their stuff in some labs, impressive i must add.

I believe the reason Kryotech uses AMD is because of the chip format they used to use. The first systems that Kryotech made were based on socketed systems. Socketed systems are probably much easier systems to design than slot. At that time AMD had the K6 series while Intel was using Slot 1 PII's. By the time Kryotech moved to slot based systems, they had already been making AMD systems for a while, so there was no real reason to switch.

Kryotech and AMD have always shared a close relationship. I think AMD likes to have them around just to generate good marketting buzz, and in turn Kryotech gets handpicked chips.

the reason why they dont use AMD processors is because no Intel processor (based on the P3 core anyway) has a hope in hell of reaching 1.6ghz !!!

The real reason Kryotech doesn't use PIIIs is because of the multiplier lock. Assuming they use a 1ghz PIII with a 7.5 multiplier, it would require a FSB speed of 213 mhz. What are the chances that your PCI cards will reliably run with a 53mhz clock?

Not true, it is possible at very low temps with very good yield chips; i can?t wait for Cc0 950Mhz PIII (9.5x100), if lucky 1.3+GHz (-15C) is guaranteed. Current PIII's have a ceiling of around 175MHz FSB. As far as now, i have a "dud" PIII which cant even do 900 (air), i have it @ 1GHz -13C, looking for some better 700 cB0 chips to hit 1.2Ghz... I have been experimenting with lots of chips/supercoolers, and yes i have seen 1.6GHz, but with the help of LN (-125C) or Freon/TEC 3/5way stack (-50C -90C).
