ugh. this is going to help large retailers that put stuff on ebay. But don't see this doing anything for small time sellers like me.

I haven't sold anything on eBay since this time last year. I doubt I will anymore.

I stopped using ebay about 2 years ago. I got sick of all the store sellers and the trickery involved to list things at .99 then ship it for $100 .
I liked ebay when it was just individual people putting up things they had around the house or things they wanted to get rid of.
When it started to get all the specialized stores, etc I lost interest.

The only thing that bugs me here in these updates are the maximum shipping policy:

http://pages.ebay.com/sell/Aug...008Update/MaxShipping/

Max price for textbooks: $4.00. Are you freaking kidding me? Sure, if you mail media mail, that's fine and dandy, but a lot of people prefer a little faster method of shipping, and in my experience, it costs at the minimum ~$10 to ship your average textbook priority (flat rate box).
Alot of this maximum shipping policy apparently has no prejudices for what shipping service. So my preferred method of shipping DVDs is priority mail, I'm still limited by $3.00? Bullshit.

It's funny when I read their explanation. (paraphrasing) " Buyers complain because the shipping prices are too high on auctions." Instead, it should read like this: "Buyers are fucking retarded and don't know how consider TOTAL cost, so we change our policy for the dumbasses, and we get more money from ebay fees."

I just wish for once ebay was straight up and truthful instead of telling us it's for our benefit.

If you read the policy, there's a max for standard shipping and you can charge above the max for expedited shipping.

These maximums apply to the first flat-rate shipping service within or into the U.S. Sellers are required to offer at least one shipping option within the maximum and may also offer other options above the maximums for expedited or international shipping.

but yeah, I'm usually a pretty heavy supporter of eBay but I got nothin this time. This is pretty wack.

Oh, ok, I skipped over quite a bit and just looked at the table.

But still every "update" is getting worse and worse. The past updates I learned to live and deal with, but this most recent one is stretching it.

FYI, that's not tricking you. It's tricking ebay.

Don't you look at total price when you bid on something?

fine by me, I mostly do fixed listings anyway and I don't rip off on shipping.

with the exception of hot ticket items, but those are few and far between.

My thoughts exactly. If you can't add two numbers, you're a dumbass. Why should sellers have to pander to these people?

it's not about taht

it's about sellers TELLING YOU THEY'LL SHIP IT PRIORITY, THEN SHIPPING IT MEDIA MAIL.

ebay would remove overpriced listings, if you report them. If a seller charges $10 to ship a game and hes not from canada, you can get his auction pulled by reporting the item. Very fast and easy to do.

I never sell on eBay, only buy, so the idea of max shipping on things is great for me. I was just looking to purchase Madden 09 and 75% of the listings have shipping of over $20 on the stupid thing, annoying.

my thoughts on the changes, while you guys say that people will buy your stuff and then give you 1 star, your own friends can buy your stuff and give you 5 stars as well. Putting bad sellers out of business is good for great sellers, those who have a 4.8/4.9 in every category (such as myself for one.) So my feelings are mixed on that.

the new LOW PRICED insertion fees are teh SEX. I can finally post tons of jeans at high prices and see if I get lucky. It's great! I don't care if I pay higher FvF. It's kind of like selling on amazon. I'll make more money in the long run that way because insertion fees are killers and I sell a lot on amazon and think listing free, paying higher commission % is better. For me anyway.

To list 200 pairs of jeans would cost me about $600. That's the profits of about 20 pairs for me. Of 200 pairs in this shitty economy, only about 60 will sell. So almost half my profit went to insertion fees.

That's my luck of course others may sell all 20 pairs...

As for paypal only. I made a thread about how they did that policy in Australia a while back as a test to do it to the US site. I think that's good too because I don't use anything but paypal, even if it means more money for ebay.

all in all, I am for the changes. And Secretly, I'm sure you guys are too.0

The scary thing is that ebay owns 25% of craigslist. They'd love to take it over...
