More is not always better

So, i recently picked up an Opteron 175 0704XPMW then found out my mobo is limiting my overclocking... but in the process, i with-held re-applying the Arctic paste cause it seemed the more i put on the more the temps didn't improve (lower) From memory, at 71f, temps would hover around 100 degrees. The paste was so thin, you could see the copper from the heatsink, and metal on top the cpu. At 71f, my temps are now reading 94, using the same temp reading software. I'm sorry, 93f. WOOT to laziness!

yeah for sure, too much thermal paste is bad for temps (a lot of macbook owners would know). i personally think i put a tad too much thermal paste on my big typhoon, but probably gona look at reapplying thermal paste once school is done.

94F = 35C, for the rest of us.

Are those idle or load temperatures?

And no, more thermal paste is almost always worse. It takes very very very very very little to do it's job properly, after that you'd be hindering it with extra.

Yup, to much = crap and a big mess to clean up later. What the paste does is fill in the small voids to keep out air and help make contact to the HS and IHS. I would only use a small drop, smaller than a pea size, more like a B B....
